Heck, it's usually hard to avoid a culture victory by that point.
Haven't played above Emperor though.
Also think epic is a good speed balance - marathon is a bit too slow for my taste, but quicker speeds make early war kinda hard and any war during industrial or later pretty pointless for awhile since you're usually only a dozen turns away from planes which the AI has no idea how to defend against.
What sizes are talking about, more specifically? Is it YnAMP map sizes? Larger than the "enormous" one?
I wish I could play on much bigger maps, but it gets random crashes all over the place if I try larger maps than the enormous one.
Though religious victories against ai are basically cheating anyway lol
On Standard speed? I question how you are making it to turn 450 on Standard speed without someone winning or you having disabled victory conditions.
If you are playing on Marathon speed, turn 450 is about on pace since everything takes twice as long.
Spent much longer than i needed to, because last AI alive was Cree, and that meant reaching the west side of the map, with enough troops to destroy what i thought was going to be a huge Cree group of cities.... it was the only AI on the entire North and South America after all, so it had no one to worry about (Except barbs and zombies) and the ton of city states all around it should have provided much trade....
In the end, it had 2 cities and did practically nothing at all....... so i wasted much time building an army i didn't need.
Cree spent the entire game getting it's backside handed to it by a barbarian clan, as there were so many zombies around it's towns that i think it gave up LOL
I don't know if others have mentioned it, but you can set a time limit for the score victory. Just use the advanced settings when starting a game and set it lower than 500 which is the default.
how? focus on victory type! do not build unnecessary things, make projects for your victory instead.
