A Lil help with Civ 6 please?
Hey guys, after spending a whole lot on Civ V, I thought I'll buy the Civ 6 Anthology, now that it's quite cheap, managed to get it for 17 bucks from GGDeals. Now, after buying the game, and installing it, it starts, and crashes. When I press play, it's starts a new game and then crashes. Every time it says "A crash report has been generated". Plus, in the my games folder, in documents, my Civ 6 folder is empty. What to do to fix it? Thought they got rid of bugs by now. :steamsad:

Never had any issues like that in years. Have you verified the game files?

Hard to say without any informations of your settings. But it reminds me the GeForce Experience Nvidia crashes. Something like that.

I've not tried buying game keys from an external site before (especially as Steam offers some amazing direct discounts so frequently). I think my first step would be to contact Steam and make certain what you purchased is valid...

GGDeals is not trustworthy imho. They want you to sign in through your Steam account, a no-go for me, and they don't seem to have an imprint.

That's irrelevent. If the code worked and that he could download the game, the game was download from steam. It's the same files no matter where you buy the dll code.

Exactly what game did he purchase? Did Steam maybe think it was something other than Civ VI, or perhaps it was some special key they use internally to test out installing games?

Having a Steam key doesn't necessarily guarantee you have the right Steam key...

Windows 11 pro. Lenovo pro 5, rtx 3070ti, intel i7-12th gen, just to give you an idea. Could it be Windows 11 or Defender doing this?

I use my email to sign in, no way i'm givin them my steam account. And almost all deals that I get from GGDeals have worked without any flaw in the past couple of years, just this game isn't functioning the way I'd like it to. It's not even creating any folders for save files and the game crashes after launching or when quitting, says "Unhandled Exception Code: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error reading address 0x0 Call Stack".

No, I think you didn't get what he meant, pardon me, but I did get the key, did activate it on steam and I got the Anthology version of the game, that I purchased. I have access to it, just that it's not working like a proper game.

The reason why Steam uses "keys" is for copy protection; your key ensures that you purchased the product, and ensures that you can continue to use the product.

The advantage of a key is that it can be monitored and/or its use disabled. If Steam doesn't want you to run the game, they can presumably disable your key.

So, that's why I'm asking: have you checked with Steam to ensure that they approve of the key you received? It could be that GGDeals got some iffy keys from somewhere...

In any case, the "Exception Access Violation" message is the most generic error message Windows can generate. It can be caused by software bugs, driver incompatibilities, hardware errors, viruses, etc. I've been able to generate it simply by unplugging my machine from the internet; Civ VI really, really doesn't like unreliable internet access. :)

If you have one drive try turning it off also check the multitheading fix. There are also things specific to windows 11.

Wow, that is... Wow. My internet is stable, thank you tho, it could be mostly software bugs or something related to Win 11. I never had this issue in Win 10
