Game not launching on Macbook Pro M1 Sonoma
I bought the game many years ago.

However, when I try to launch it, it says "You should move this to the trash" and will not open. I have tried to re-download and delete the game multiple times. I have also tried to verify the files integrity and it doesn't report any errors.

Please help, I would love to play. (Macbook Pro M1 Sonoma)

This error message is being generated by "Gatekeeper", a security feature Apple has built-in to macOS. When you install a new application, Gatekeeper checks to see if it has been properly "signed" by the developer. If the signing mechanism is incorrect or does not completely cover the installation package, it suggests you not install the app.

Aspyr's port of Civ VI is not properly signed. It hasn't been for more than a year now. I don't know why Aspyr hasn't yet fixed the problem.

You can bypass the security mechanism and install the game anyway. The process goes something like this (it differs slightly in different versions of macOS):

After receiving the "damaged" error message,
- Open the Mac System Settings.
- Select "Privacy and Security".
- Select "Security Settings"
- In the Security Settings, you should see a prompt saying "Civilization VI was blocked..." Click the "Open Anyway" button under this text.
- Enter your system password if prompted.

If you have not done so or if it isn't already there could you add it to the mac stickie at the top of the forum?

Actually, I just cut-n-pasted this reply from my last post in the Mac stickied thread. (I did edit it a bit.) I don't think I'm allowed to edit the first post of the thread, but I've placed the Gatekeeper message in that thread at least a dozen times now (as well as all over the place in other Mac related questions).

I don't begrudge people not finding the message there, though. Who has time to read through a thread with 5000 posts in it? I've not managed it myself. :)

It's baffling. The bug report I put in to Aspyr support about this more than two months ago hasn't even been replied to or acknowledged. (It's request #211634, in the unlikely event anyone from Aspyr reads this. It has the output from the codesign tool that shows why it's broken!)

Makes me very hesitant to ever buy anything Aspyr is involved with in the future! Which is a bit of a shame, I was kind of interested in buying Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.
