The "damaged" error message is coming from "Gatekeeper", a security feature of macOS. The concept here is that the developer will "sign" their binary using a unique ID, and if that signature is incorrect or incomplete, Gatekeeper rejects the binary (stopping the app from being installed).

It is up to Aspyr to fix this issue, but it has been a problem for more than a year now.

You can still install the game by bypassing Apple's security mechanism. The process goes something like this (it differs slightly in different versions of macOS):

After receiving the "damaged" error message,
- Open the Mac System Settings.
- Select "Privacy and Security".
- Select "Security Settings"
- In the Security Settings, you should see a prompt saying "Civilization VI was blocked..." Click the "Open Anyway" button under this text.
- Enter your system password if prompted.
