Please no Giant Death Robot in Civ 7
Ok MAYBE we could have it in Civ 7 but I would much rather prefer if the devs rebalance it and make the GDR not just some end-game super unit like it is in gathering storm that just gets OP AF after researching more technologies.

By the time I get to death robot the game is over.

Oh, GDR are pretty cool :)
It makes the endgames more interesting than the nuke everything in sight thing.

I'm hoping Civ VII leans into the concept of game modes. That way they can plug features that some people find controversial, like Future Tech, or World Congress, into options you can pick and choose on a game by game basis.

My problem with the GDR is not that it Exist, its that its a "super unit" that can do everything, once you have them you don't need to build any other units in your army. I mean they were powerful in Civ V, but at least in Civ V they didn't get upgrades that gave them insane buffs like Drone air defense for example

Yes, but their utility is often tempered by the fact they're expensive and come very late in the tech tree. You almost never have time to build full GDR armies with full upgrades ; Well, of course, with some game options and when playing only vs bots, you could, but if you're able to do this, you just should have win a long time ago, no ?

The game curve is such that if you're playing well, GDR are never going to be your make or break unit anyway. If your games are going to the point you need GDR to swing things in your favor, you're playing from behind and can definitely get better. Unless we're talking playing at Deity++ with AI mods, GDR are always going to be the gravy on top, and not your main meal.

I don't care if its the gravy on top. they shouldn't exist period. a unit designed to be "super" is not a good game design. also the Maintenance cost on GDRs is a joke, 3 uranium per turn and 15 gold? ♥♥♥♥♥ please I can field like 6-7 GDRs on a deity game with atomic era start

So why do tons of strategy games feature "super" or otherwise unique "endgame" units?

Feels like you're confusing "i don't like it" with "bad design".

Well, this is your opinion, which many of us respectfully disagree with. GDR were added in GS for a reason, mostly to make information era wars more interesting. Most of games that went that far just finished in nuclear apocalypse, which was worse. GDR do a great job to counter this with their anti air. They can defend a Nuke+helicopter rush on your capital, which may be totaly game changing and let one of your teammates win a cultural or a diplomatic when besieged by heavy nuke assaults. That's something we can see in some games that are really interesting. Plus, they give a real interest to uranium apart from nukes. So you have to make choices and more macromanagement of your ressources. It's far from a bad design. It needs some balance, sure, but they're a good designed unit for interesting endgames :)

The best (only?) way I can't think of to prevent GDR's ina agame is... controling yourself all uranium sites on the map and not build GDR's. :steamsalty:

If you can do that and somehow GDR are still hindering your Victory, then GDR aren't your problem. As I said at first, I'm fine with the option to turn them off (there's probably mods that do that, tbh) But not letting them exist? Nah, no need to harsh the game for people that have fun with them. The game isn't balanced around them, is my point. They're just a thing that exists that you can use if you want.

Uh no I won that game, was playing Suliman on Diety, by the time I won however I had like 5 GDRs

from a conversation on Reddit.
"Idk I got one today from the golden age a solid 50 turns before I got the tech. I was well behind on immortal with Kupe and the GDR let me steam roll the Aztecs (who had the second highest science) and it let me squeak out a Diplomatic victory right as another AI was about to win science.

I think they need to remove the GDR from the golden ages because I really should’ve lost."

"It's not even that you should have lost; you should have to win in a more interesting way than using one robot to beat down a dozen cities. GDR discourages using other late game equipment because you just don't need it."

"GDR discourages using other late-game equipment because you just don't need it.

This is essentially my point"
