Old Strategic View
Hi all. I started the game for the first time in several years and discovered that the strategic view had been completely redone. Previously, it did not have a clear division into hexes and looked like this:

It may have been less clear for strategic planning, but the fuzzy edges and slight isometric tilt of the “camera” added an indescribably cozy atmosphere.
Is there any possibility to turn it back? Unfortunately, I couldn't even find any mods.

If I'm not mistaken, you can switch the strategic view using an icon above the minimap.

Correct. I hate the map he loves because I have a hell of a time telling where I'm moving my units differentiating between terrain types.

OP wants to switch from the new strategic view back to the old one. As you can see in the video, the tiles used to have more organic looking outlines in that mode, whereas now they are strictly hexagonal. Unfortunately I don't know of a way to change it back but there is probably a mod for that.

There are two maps organic to the game have been since civ 5. One is a more natural looking map that is sort of like a view from the space shuttle, The other is a top down view of the map complete with hexgrid though that can be turn on and off as well. The toggle for the map view is either the first or the second one going right to left along the top of the minimap. I've been playing the hex map for three or four years.

Yes. But the OP already knows there are two different maps. He isn't trying to switch between them; he is complaining that the original aesthetic nature of the strategic map has been modified.

You and I have completely different interpretations of what he is saying then. I'never play the the artistic map. It looks cool but it is difficult to use especially when you get to be my age and your eyes are no longer as sharp as once they were,

The description of the second screenshot seems to point out, why, not?

The yield icons are bigger. But the one you are showing as 2023 I've been Using since I got GS in early 2022, I play it with the hex grid turned on though, in fact I've never seen the other one and I've been playing since 2021,

Yeah the only way to switch to the old view is probably via mods.

I think it's an improvement but I only use strategy view for planning, drop a bunch of pins, then switch back to normal view for play.

Ah; I've been playing since something like 2017 I think, and I do vaguely recall the previous version. I generally don't use the strategic map at all, so it isn't a big deal to me. (I haven't tried this, but maybe the older art style would still be used in the older rulesets? I know that other UI features are ruleset-based.)

I just made a Standard game for Khmer (I want to try the Martyr Missionaries anyway) and the Strategic view looks the same as in Gathering Storm. Looks like a mod will be needed to change it back.

I've got to maps called strategic. One looks more real but it is also a pain in the but to use mountains are easy but anything else is a pain for me to deal with,
