Building a citie on top of a resource
So if I see say Cotton, or Bananas, or whatever else. If I build a city on top of it... do I get to keep that resource or is it just gone and I dont get it?

If you build on a bonus resource, you get a slight bonus to city center yield, depending on which it was.

If you build on a luxury, you get the resource.

If you build on a strategic, you get the resource. But you do not get credit for a mine or pasture in the context of tech boosts.

The city center is a district.
Districts Will destroy bonus resource but not luxery OR strategic.

->
By default a city center Will produce 2 food, 1 production.. buy if the tile it is on ha a higher output in food and/or production than that bigger number is used.

You will get acces to the luxery/strategic if it's under a district.

Ok cool! Thank you very much! So if I wanted to build on top of say, Wine or citrus, I get said wine?

And same if I decided to build on top of Iron?

The city center doesn't destroy bonus resources. You'll still get the yield from them if the tile yield exceeds 2 food 1 production.

Yes, but you still need the tech that would allow you to build the improvement on the resource (Irrigation for Wine/Citrus, Mining for mined luxuries, etc) in order to collect the resource.

Got it. Thanks very much. Theres this tabacco resource on my map that I game with, and its location is perfect for a city due to the volcano nearby and other resources.

Did that used to be true? It is not anymore. Last game, I settled on olives first turn and received them. Was able to trade them by turn 9 or 10 when I met first other civ. I still didn't have irrigation at the time.

Edit: just tested with a couple restarts, and it worked for citrus as well on first turn. Gonna try a couple more to hopefully find a mining luxury.

Edit2: lol, that didn't take long, first try got marble for a turn two city start, and that came in as an amenity right away as well.
