Essential gameplay DLCs
Which DLCs you would say are necessary to fully enjoy the game when it comes to gameplay?

I have to admit, this game has been fairly well balanced in each of its major releases.

The smaller DLC packs provide fun scenarios and rule changes, but I tend to turn them off and just go straight "Gathering Storm" ruleset with no additions when I want a good, challenging game. (Deity level still kicks my butt in at least nine out of ten games...)

All of them.

I don't think any of them are essential, but Gathering Storm gives the most content in terms of mechanics.

I believe they are on sale during the Strategy Fest.

Do we know if more content should be released to CIV6?

Firaxis appears to be busy developing Civ 7 right now, they probably won't put any additional effort into 6 at this point.

The only thing I would consider essential is gathering storm. Rise and fall being second best for filling out a lot of civs and wonders.

That said the leader pass does give you a lot of fun leaders to play with.

There's no guarantee one way or the other. The Leader Pass came out of basically nowhere.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy the Leader Pass. It is free for everyone that owns all other content.

Gathering Storm is the only essential DLC i would say, as it adds the biggest ruleset to the game. Everything else either only adds civs (which are great for more diverse gameplay, but most of the time it doesn't matter that much which opponent civs you get depending on your playstyle, obviously if you want to play specific civs, then go for it) or with the small gameplay changes with the Frontier Pass (which the AI usually can't handle that good though). Some of the older civ packs also add scenarios, but i can't say that much about it, since i've never really played them^^

I picked Civ VI up at the time of release, but would always go back to Civ V for achievement hunting. I"ve finally come around and get the Civ hook planted nicely in my cheek for VI for some reason this time. Picked the whole kit and kaboodle collection for like 14 bucks and some change. Great time to complete the collection.

No more major content changes, the last few leaders passes were made from small creative teams being trained for future use. The main Civ creators havent added any content since before the great negotiators i believe.

Thank you everyone for answering my question.

I decided to just get Gathering Storm.

Now let's see how this goes:)

I'd say get the current platinum edition discount of 91%, anything not included will be on sale on the next big sale cycle

gathering storm include rise and fall mechanics, so I'd say if you can only afford one DLC, that one is the best. Although the full game+all DLC now frequently went on sale with astronomical discount.

Like others have pointed out you can get it all for pretty cheap during sales, and honestly that's what I did so I couldn't even tell you how good base civ 6 is or tell you which expansion is better than the other. I think technically speaking it's cheaper to just get the full package then going through picking each dlc piece by piece.
