Sid Meier's Civilization VI

Sid Meier's Civilization VI

Unplayable - FIXED (SOLUTION FOUND)
Recently there have been several updates to my system: CIV VI itself, Steam Common Redistributables, Windows, Intel chip set, Dell firmware, NVIDIA graphics card drivers, and more. After all of this, CIV VI has become unplayable. It takes forever ever to load, and if it does, playing just a few moves seems to take forever. I have reinstalled drivers, deleted CIV VI and reinstalled it, reinstalled video drivers, and so on. Nothing seems to solve the problem.
Any one with any other ideas that I might be able to try? I would appreciate some good advice.

This has been the case since release, even with fast SSD. At least my experience.

Lowering the GFX settings even only one level made the game significantly faster for me.

I have the same issue (I think), CIV became extremely slow with low fps performance and no online troubleshooting tip helped me to fix it. I have 1000+ hours in the game, but I was not able to play it for months now.
And no, I still have no clue how to fix it. Tried all of the tips from the link below, I think that would be the general idea where to start, but it did not help.

I can now play it, though slowly, by launching the game through GeForce. Launching the game through Steam causes it to lock up my computer. There have been too many updates: Windows, Steam, CIV, graphics card, Intel, Dell, and so on. So some is not communicating properly with other code. I have no idea which one is at fault. I just know that my computer works (email, browsing, etc.) and I can play other games on Steam.

One thing I have to do from time to time is run something like CCleaner with a registry clean-up. Use whatever program you like, but often just the accumulation of these changes leaves a briar patch of obsolete entries and dead links that has to be cleaned up and once that's done, things may run more smoothly.

I was asking as some people have windows 11, which can make some issues with current games.

My wife uses 10 and I'm still at 8.1 and we have no issues with the performance. Our PCs are far from new.

What graphics card you use and is civ 6 installed on a ssd?

In many games people have fps problems with Geforce RTX Graphic cards, especially 3070, 3080 and 3090.

Have you tried to use DirectX 11 instead of 12. There is an option in the launcher.

Yes. I tried that. Same problem. I have 2845 hours of playing CIV. All of my problems with CIV have cropped up during this past week. Again, many updates: Windows, Steam, CIV, Intel, Dell, NVIDIA, and more. Who knows what update is the root of this problem? I sure do not know.

SOLUTION: Change the permissions of the CIV .exe file on your computer. It seems that when Windows updated, and when I reinstalled CIV, I (the user) no longer had write privileges. Even though I am the only user on my computer and I am the administrator, I could not properly use CIV. By giving myself (USER) full access to all of CIV, seemed to solve the problem.
