No Jewish / Hebrew civ yet??
Why won’t Firaxis Games add a Jewish / Hebrew civilization? There are so many historical options, for example:

1) The ancient Kingdoms of Israel and Judea, United or divided. 1100(c.) BCE - 586 BCE, (potential leaders: King David, King Solomon, King Hezkeiah, King Ahab, etc.)
2) The Hasmonean kingdom 140 BCE - 37 BCE. (potential leaders: Simon Thassi, etc.)
3) The Herodian kingdom 37 BCE - 6 CE. (potential leader: king Herod the great)
4) The modern state of Israel. 1948 CE - Today (potential leaders: David Ben-Gurion, Golda meir, etc.)

it seems like Firaxis Games are trying to ignore historical truth and just follow an agenda, maybe they are too scared of controversy, but come on.. be loyal to history and the fans.

I'm not interested in participating in arguments in the comments, which i'm sure will come, as any Internet discussion which has something to do with Jews or Israel is always followed by uncivilized comments made by unintelligent and racist people.
If you want to claim that Jews never had their own Kingdom/State or whatever, feel free to study real history (not from 4chan), research into the abundant archaeological evidence and literature from ancient and classical times and read some academic literature.
Also, Israel is a modern Jewish state, if you like it or not.

peace. :steamsalty:

Israel with the Merkava 4 tank as uu would be a favorite civ.
I'd say slingers would be a better fit for unique unit.

you say that because of the david and goliath encounter?

around that era (1200bc to 1000bc), we see canaanites used slings, bows, daggers and some may have still used the khopesh (if a person could afford or capture one). likely these would not yet have been iron (we can see in 1 Samuel the phillistines had the market cornered on iron smithy 13:19-13:22), so bronze spear heads, axe heads, some swords. Judges 5 explains in the era of deborah (1107-1067bc) the israelite army was particularly ill equipped without shields or spears.

after 1000bc, with solomon's purported riches, those tables certainly turned and israel would have been full on iron age, and likely chariots.

In the game units, buildings and perks are assigned more for "flavor" than for historical accuracy. Therefore, Israel having a slinger as its special unit because of the David and Goliath story isn't far fetched.

We aren't getting a Jewish(Hebrew) civ, why does this thread even exist? If you want to play them, there are mods or create your own. Almost everytime there's a new DLC, there's a pointless thread like this. All these baseless opinions on why Israel should be in doesn't matter- they won't be in this game. There's no point in the arguing or justifications.

Well, forums are for discussing stuff and voicing opinions, so...

It does raise the question of how the civ would actually be featured in the game. The ancient kingdoms of Judah and Israel are already separate polities, and the united monarchy didn't last very long. You could probably pick some figurehead from that time for leader and civ abilities (at which point things would immediately turn into religious politics because it may be hard to avoid using biblical sources), but what about infrastructure and troops? The modern Israel stuff is obviously out of question.

The series has of course made use of some silly UUs and UBs/UDs like "norwegian" ski infantry (almost as if no other country had employed infantry with skis) or bazaar in Civ 5 (the word isn't even arabic, it's persian), but I don't think that kind comparatively laid-back picking for unique civ features should be repeated.

If the argument is like that Israel was too small/ didn't last too long/ had little weight in history or civilization/ etc. then what could be said about civs like Nubia, Gaul, Vietnam, Maori, Mapuche, Mali, Ethiopia, Kongo, Cree, Zulu, Georgia, Canada, Australia... No offense to any of these, all are worthy but I don't see how any of these had more impact on history and civilization than Israel.

It's more of a F1raxis and TwoK kind of thing. If you've been here a while you'd know it's not just a randoms on the forums issue
Charlemagne 21 FEB 2023 a las 11:43 a. m.
OK leave aside that there's no Israel. I know there won't be, because of all the hate of which we have seen some samples here, Firaxis probably doesn't want to go there.
OTOH why so much love for China? I mean, five leaders? While many interesting civs, even aside from Israel are left out?
