Trading Luxury Resources?
In Civ 5 I figured out when it was a good trade but for Civ 6 I can't even tell what the luxury resources do. I read somewhere that certain ones give like, +1 culture. But when I trade them I can't see any discernable difference in my per turn income.

So is there any reason to -not- trade a luxury resource? They seem like they only exist to be traded. But since happiness is gone, the "just keep 1" rule doesnt seem to apply anymore?

And even when I do trade, the AI is generally greedy af and only wants to give me like, 2 gold per turn for like, 1-3 resources. they seem to think their open borders mean something to me.

So..Luxury Resources..What do?
Also, with the monopolies and corporations, can anyone explain precisely when I can found a ..corporation or whatever? It seems to be random and it doesnt seem to apply to very many resources. I've managed to monopolize tobacco and truffles, but everything else says I can't do it. I am unclear on when precisely I can, and why I can't.

All luxury resources give amenities to your cities. Each luxury type is only good for 1 each for 4 cities. And you can only use 1 of each type for your entire civ. Beyond that, they are basically for trading, yes. And the only time you really don't want to is if you want a particular civ to have a lack of amenities. For instance, if you are trying to get their cities to flip. It's a minor thing, but everything adds up.

Note, there are some exceptions to these basic tenets via world congress, great people, etc.

But that is kind of the basic 101 version.

In Civ VI, luxury resources are the key to "Happiness", especially in the early game. If your cities are unhappy, they will suffer reduced production, population growth, science & culture, pretty much everything. If they are happy, on the other hand, they will receive bonuses.

Cities require a specific number of "Amenities" to remain content, based upon their population. Each luxury resource can provide 1 Amenity to four cities, but multiple copies of a particular resource do not provide any additional benefits. Therefore, you can trade away excess quantities of luxury resources without losing any benefits to your own cities.

Depending on your diplomatic status with other Civs, and on how much they need more Amenities (and whether they need the specific Amenity you are trading), they can offer you a lot, a little, or nothing at all in trade. You'll need to improve your relationships, and determine the optimal set of goods, in order to get a good deal.

I don't believe the standard Civ VI ruleset includes "corporations" or "monopolies".

You can build an industry using a builder if one city has at least 2 of the same luxury resources improved, and you can only have 1 of the same industry across your whole empire. Corporations require you to have at least 3 improved copies of a luxury and an industry of that type. You would then use a Great Merchant that still has all of its charges to upgrade your industry to a corporation.

There is a monopolies and corporations game mode included in the New Frontier Pass.

It's a bit bugged. Though there is a mod to somewhat negate that bug.

But still, not missing a ton with those game modes. They are interesting, but not balanced well. Of course not being balanced well does not mean they aren't fun to play with here and there!

thanks
