join a religion already created
I would like to be able to use the justification of holy war. But I have a small problem and that is that I couldn't get any great prophet, therefore I don't have my own religion. any solution?

I'm pretty sure you have to have founded a religion to use that Casus Belli, so you will need to work on getting one faster. Even if you didn't need to found one, you have no control over someone else's religion.

So far, I have completely ignored all the religion/faith mechanics of the game, and I raze cities that waste tiles on holy sites.

I've been playing on huge maps in which all religions seem to get bum-rush founded quickly by other civs, and in those conditions it seems pointless to bother.

I suspect it would be easier to focus on the religion/holy war side of the game when playing with fewer AIs (and therefore less competition for the great prophets) and/or playing as Saladin.

The whole Civ6 religion system strikes me as something in need of a re-work / heavy dose of modding.

Prior to Prince difficulty I can almost always get a religion if not the first religion, but then I tend to play gilgamesh which means you get goodie huts from barbs so depending on how cooperative the barbs are you can get a lot of free religion points that way.

The Civilopedia says it has to be "your religion" in the city that the enemy has converted to let you use the Holy War casus belli. That wording clearly guarantees that if you have a religion that you founded, you can use Holy War after another civ converts one of your cities.

However, that may not be the only meaning of "your religion". For some game mechanics, you can have a "majority religion", the religion that the majority of your cities follow, so perhaps "your religion" counts as far as letting you use Holy War even if you haven't founded a religion, as long as you, one way or the other, got most of your cities converted to one foreign religion before this other foreign religion converted one of your cities.

The wiki doesn't make this point clear either. The only way to find out is by experience. I myself haven't used Holy War in so long that I don't remember if I had my own religion or not in that game. We might have to wait for someone with experience of this situation to chime in on this thread.

Again, to clarify the situation we're interested in, it would be that you have a majority religion that is not one that you created, and then another civ converted one of your cites from this religion, The question is this -- if you meet these condition, is Holy War available to you on the casus belli pick list?

Even on Deity, getting a religion isn't difficult. Sure, it requires a non-insignificant amount of investment, but all you really need to do is build a Holy Site and/or a shrine, then run Holy Site prayers 2-3 times. Getting the boost to Astrology is nice, but not required.
