Good Relationships?
Is there a quick way to make unfriendly Civs like me? AI players always seem to hate me instantly. I’ve been playing for over a year now and still can’t get past this hurdle. For example, I met Gilgamesh, and wanted to be friends with him. As far as I know, Gilgamesh is supposed to like long term relationships, but he declared war against me in only 7 turns. He wouldn’t trade and refused my delegations, so, is there a better way to build good relations with unfriendly Civs?

Have a strong military.

I've never once seen an AI refuse a delegation on the turn you meet them. They won't be Unfriendly yet on that turn and so they'll accept it, which will improve relationships with them. Gilgamesh usually will accept a friendship request on the spot as well, and then you're buddies for the rest of the game.

Click on the Leaders portrait and then on the heart above the portrait. There you find some tip on how raise or lower your relationship with that particular leader.

Gilgabro, ah well sometimes he gets ticked off if you don't friend him fast enough. Also for most ai when the friend expires and do not renew it fast enough they will get mad. I would ask this question on civ fanatics forums its a great place for info.

You have to learn their agendas and try to avoid directly making them angry with things like, forward settling, settling near a wonder, hoarding luxuries, taking to much land, too many suzeran etc. Well see there pretty much everything makes them angry.

You will be fine when you have more experience dealing with them but for some tips here is m2c.

Look at your start and ask can I improve three tiles? if no then do not build a builder until you can improve you tiles for the eureka.

Do I have open terrain to scout? if no then don't start with a scout start with warrior and most likely you get a scout anyway from a hut.

Some players religiously use a "build Order" Many of the best players in this game have explained that yes there are certain things you need to do BUT terrain in your starting city dictates when you do them.

Try and build some military units in the first 20 turns

Try not to settle within 8 tiles of a ai, even though he settles in your face

Send trade routes people say but I never do this until very late game

OPEN BOARDERS!

Sell them you luxuries, you do not need them early and then keep them as needed. This is Montes agenda btw.

Be aware some games they are just flat out coming for you and nothing you can do it seems.

Watch twitch The Game Mechanic and NormuL8or are my favorite streamers. Also I would watch civtrader6 videos on youtube, he stopped playing in rise and fall and has map scummed BUT the guy knows how to play and you can learn a lot about diplomacy as he has 2 peaceful victory games on there.

Research Horses and Archey at least up until the boost early

I research Masonry unitl the boost also But I like walls for some odd reason, a lot of player never build walls but IMO they help a lot when you are defending.

Hope this helps!
