Just a quick note since you Aren't familiar. Trade routes can be destroyed by the enemy if they occupy the same time as your trader, there are both land and sea trade routes, and there is a total limit to the number of trade routes available.
Also it's worth noting that early game roads don't make you move faster. They eliminate movement penalties from rough terrain.
How this will apply for military engineers though, I haven't a clue..
The roads are permanent, so you can send a trader, wait until the road is finished and then either cancel the trade route or wait for it to come up for renewal and send it somewhere else.

plus you need a 3d item to be cell-shaded(borderlands) or cell-shaded-ish(civ VI).
So I put shades in your cell so you can cell shade your cells.
The fog graphics look a bit like cell-shaded, I think. Actually, reminds me of the cool graphics of Valkyria Chronicles, albeit less colourful.
