Nonsense decision for Civ Leaders. That's plain ridicolous
Thinking that this will bring innovation to an old title, they are taking absurd decision about Civ leaders that are not going to please anyone.

Caterina De Medici as French Leader? I mean, historically it happened for a very short period of time, but she was never truly loved becouise she came from Florence and was percieved as foreign.

I'm Italian, and I can see French Gamers raging. With all the French personalities, women included, they had in history, this decision makes no sense.

Now let's put Napoleon as the Ruler of Rome and we are set.

And why wiping Tokugawa? The "old" leaders made sense, and it's not there were innovation should be pursued.

Probably they don't know about European century old rivalries. Nowaday French are brothers and sisters to us, but if i have to immerse in a "fictional historical" reproduction, I want somebody that leads my nation that has the right appeal for the people of my country.

We are starting bad as usual with nonsenses. Maybe in patch 15323 they will fix this.
Made up my mind, I'll wait for a Goty in few years.

You think they add new civ leaders because people like them? If that was the case then there would never be anyone like Ceasar or Genghis Khan. They add new leaders to change things up so we arent playing the same damn people every game. Just enjoy the game and get your politics out of here.

Eh? Ghenghis is liked by the Mongolian people to this day and the rest of the world has long forgotten his misbehaviour. Ceasar was not even a bad guy in his day, I think, but he certainly is not seen as one now.

The people who assassinated him claimed it was for tyranny.

I mean, he didn't commit any massive atrocities, but he did demolish the Republic and install himself as an absolute authority. Those living and thriving under the system he deposed were likely not happy about it.

That's the rub. "Good" and "Bad" are false absolutes. What's positive from one point of view can become negative when seen through another context.

Assuming we're talking about Julius (which people usually are when they just say Caesar), the degree to which he demolished the republic and was absolute authority is often over-stated. Some argue that he was reluctantly dictator at the end, and was planning to lay down the authority so he could go off and fight people, and there's no point having a dictator who isn't in Rome. The main reason for this being that the dictator's authority didn't extend beyond Rome in any case. He was also far from the first person to be dictator - this was an established role in the Roman republic's constitution, for use in emergencies.

His adopted heir, he's the one who started gathering all power to himself, while maintaining the show of the republic continuing - Augustus, known earlier in his life as Octavian.

Caterina de Medici is perfect character for the interesting unique power that the developers want for the France... only critique may be is that this power is useless for Multiplayer game.

To be fair, for the espionage focus Cardinal Richelieu would probably be far more ideal than a network of "ladies in waiting". As far as I know Catherine is primarily known for the wars of religion, not espionage.

QFT.

This is exactly what I've been thinking ever since I've heard of that absolutely bizarre choice.

Richelieu would have been a much better leader if what they were going for was the power behind the throne especially considering that he was actually French and not regarded as a foreigner by the French...

Certainly in English writing about the late republic/early empire, saying Caesar with qualification generally refers to Julius Caesar. When people write/talk about Augustus, they call him Augustus (just like Nero, Claudius, Tiberius and Caligula - each known by one of their many names, one that is unique among their fellows, and in the last case a childhood nickname).

I'm hoping that some future DLC will provide alternative leaders for each civ like in Civ 4 - I'd pay a little extra for that. While, the choice of French leader seems strange I don't see it as a big deal really - and it allows the French civ to be an interesting blend of culture, tourism, and espionage this time as opposed to just the culture civ.

They are going to be doing it by the looks of it, with the leader ability and nation ability being different.
