Regicide Game Mode
Regicide
-is a game mode I've always wanted in Civ and seems very easy to add into the game.

It starts with my idea that no unit in the game should be without an in-game counterpart that represents it on the map (that means spies and envoys, too, damnit Firaxis). So, I took that idea one step beyond and thought "why not the Civ leader themself?" and regicide mode suddenly started to seem like a great way to play.

So, basically, you have a unit who is modeled after you...whatever leader you choose; be it Roosevelt, Qin Shi Huang, etc... and if that unit is captured or killed then you are out of the game. The same goes for every other player in the game (AI & human).

This will make for quicker, more intense games. Spotting where an enemy is keeping their great leader could spur a surprise attack & the great leader would need to travel in well armed convoys and presumably give a great bonus in nearby tiles.

It seems like there a great number of ways for this mechanic to work itself out, and it would be very simple to turn great leaders on/off when setting up a game.

What do you think?

And some cities could demand that your leader comes or else they generate a great deal of local unhappiness or revolt or something! Or an enemy could capture your leader and ask for things in return like cities or gold! That sounds actually pretty cool :D

This is not a new idea. I think the expansion pack for CivIV had this exact mode but with the ability to stack units in Civ IV it was prety easy to protect this unit.

No, Civ IV did not have this game mode. Unless you're talking about a mod.

It's interesting. If you lose your unit you lose the game. And in other game mod you could move your leader to different city to improve production (and other things). You could also have some mission and diplomacy if you send your leader in another friend country. And if you lose your leader it will be replaced (or lose forever) by a new one that you will have to upgrade. And depend of your ideology you can select some bonuses for your unit ^^

It wasn't in Civ IV, but it was in Civ III. One of the expansions added it.

I think they should bring it back as an option, but I don't really miss it much.

Imagine having to use the leader your people elected if you take democracy/freedom but you have bonuses while a dictatorship would let you use any leader you want but he would have less bonuses or a lesser impact while trading with diplomacies

With the new gameplay relating to Leader traits it would make for interesting strategies. In addition to Regicide we might see a character that can be captured and cajoled into making diplomatic and financial concessions. With limited stacking teh character might have a Special Forces or Diplomatic Protection squad attached to teh Leader. This might make for sdome interesting Unique Units.

OP I had to search for this. I must have missed it first time around ;)

Why did you search for it?

Because you complained in another thread that matters of concern to you were not being discussed. :)

No. No I didn't. If that's how you took it then you misunderstood. I complained that hardly anything other than the game art was the topic of any serious discussion.

There's plenty of discussion of other stuff - just so many threads about graphics.
