Native Americans
Usually we get a North America Native American civilization in the base game, even if its just "Native Americans", however this time we did not. Do you think it could possibly be that they're discarding the native americans? I have a feeling that there will be a few coming out in DLC but I hope that doesn't mean any less. Also do you think Polynesia will make a return as well?

I doubt they're discarding the Native Americans. We had two total in Civ V, so i expect we'll eventually get a couple. They're probably trying to come up with something new, so maybe we'll get Inuit or Apache this time.

Expect to be able to purchase such a civilization sometime later.

No, in Civ 4 they didn't come into the game until a later expansion.

you mean indians?

We do have the Aztecs, but yes a north American tribe would really round out the list.

Yeah, I was a little surprised there was no First Nations there, but I imagine there will be. No doubt.

Sounds perfect for an 'Americas' DLC

Aztecs are North American... modern day Mexico, where the aztec's territory was, is completely in NA.

I think the base game only comes with relevant civs that had an influence on the world

You are correct, I swapped the locals of the Inca and Aztecs. Still another tribe like the Lakota or Cherokee would be really great.

Gilgamesh is the leader of Sumeria, he is a legend of myth. It would be like having Heracles lead Greece.

The Aztec's territory was way down at the south of modern Mexico, as I understand it - and included modern Panama.

In any case, my understanding is that study of pre-Columbian civilizations divide it into south, north and meso-American, though I don't know precisely in what way, it's said that this is a cleaner division with more consistency within the groups.

Personally, I see Aztec as Central American. They are definitely different from the plains tribes of North America and both are different from the Inuit.

Well Mexico City was built more or less on the ancient location of the Azetice capital, Tenochtitlan When most Americans refer to native Americans we tend to be referring the those on the planes who our nation had the most contact with while meso America usually refers the area of Spanish and Portigies influence.

You say that like the Plains tribes were either the greatest and most powerful, or at least the most prolific. You would be very wrong in terms of power, they only lasted so long because they could afford to be pushed back by the Europeans, had a longer peace time before eventual conflict, and were able to obtain and use horses effectively because of their home. However, the really significant tribes of North America would have been the ones on the east coast like the Iroquois and the Algonquin or the Cherokee and the Creek. They fought in the early wars of colonization as well as some of them participating in the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, etc.
