Would you support Hitler in a Civ game?
In previous Civilization games many blood thirsty leaders have been represented.

Stalin , Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great and Montezuma to name a few.

Would you be offended or support Hitler being added as a leader in Civ 6?

He would never be in the main game, although as a mod I'm sure someone has already done it.

comparisons to other blood thirsty leaders aside it will never happen. The negative press would be bad for the series and Firaxis shareholders would not likely be pleased with the decision.

I agree. The press would be so bad it wouldn't be worth it.
Ironically they have had leaders in the game who have commited terrible atrocities but it seems the name Hitler is just unacceptable.

Question remains , would you personally have a problem if they decided to add him ?

Yes, I would support Hitler as a civilization leader or strictly an AI enemy for various scenarios.

Hitler is never going to be in Civ (except maybe as a scenario leader) because a. it would be banned in Germany and b. the only good thing he ever did for Germany was blowing his brains out.

Although the press back lash would be terrible, the only reason Stalin in civ 4 was never attacked by the media is that he was a lesser of two evils at the time in history. Stalin killed more people than Hitler, but it wasn't any specific group genocide, and he was on the allies. In today's industry however, I don't even think we will get Stalin again.

If it was multi-leader instead of just one per civ, yeah. Otherwise, it wouldn't work.

i want Stalin, Hitler, Genghis Khan

Yes, I as a german would be very offended and would not buy the game. I hope that i am not the only one who thinks so. Why do you want to reduce the history of my country to a timeperiod of 12 years?

The price tag and the art style are no problem to me. But having Hitler in the game would make me seriously think about boycotting it. I am german and in general have no problem with games picturing hitler, when it explicitly comes to that time period he lived in or was reigning. But for a Civ game with alternate history... and the art style where I can picture Hitler only being trivialized and where he would represent germany for an its entire history, it would strongly offend me.

I'd still buy the game, yes. Hitler is part of history, like it or not.

It might be interesting but not possible.

As an American I'd find it objectionable as well. I do not see including Hitler brining any value to the game and belive that his inclusion would damage the series. As I stated above the negative public perception would be severe and driven by a media that is more than willing to portray gamers as anti social degenerates. It would certainly cause division within the community. Simply look to the division caused by Civ VI change in art style and multiply by an order of magnitude to gauge the rift it would cause. Good players, many of them long standing customers of the series would leave and the type of player Hitlers inclusion would attract is questionable.

Allow me to explained that last comment. If nothing else adding Hitler to the game would be shocking, and would attract gamers who are more interested in its shock value than in playing a strategy game. If your that type of player you perpetuate that shock by making offensive YouTube videos, which would further damage the games public perception. So in terms of attracting new players to the game it's a losing proposition. You loose long term customers, attract a likely smaller number of new customers, many of whom will bring unwanted negative attention to the game, and many of whom will quickly jump ship when the next game with shock factor appears.

And beyond shock what value does adding Hitler bring to the game? Civilizations a game about the history of a civilization not a WW2 simulator. I guess there's some value if you fantasize about the nazis ruling the world or nazis in space, there's plenty of comic books and movies that bring that to life, so it's not a stretch that some would want to see it in a game as well. Personally I'd prefer it not be Civ.

TLDR - questionable value in adding Hitlers easily outweighed by negative impact to the series.

Stalin was in the original Civ i believe but got removed.
Firaxis like ancient civs and ancient leaders as the controversy from these things is usually negligable. But when you have Htler in the game, some warning lights will be flashing and the press and a major part of the community will lose respect that Firaxis has on these sensitivity issues.
