The espionage system is plain bad. That's all there is to it.

are the chances being shown not accurate though?I have yet to succeed a SINGLE time on any espionage mission under 100%

maybe they have counterspy in their city that reduce the % displayed and you won't know that?
makes sense.
but i think it's just broken, lol.

i think maybe i misunderstood espionage, it seems the escaping happens even when you're successful with sabotage? it's confusing but maybe i have been successful at many more of my espionages and thought I failed them LOL

Just do the mission that increase your chances on that city (always do this first), then do an easy one (the one to get gold have a high chance). Once your spy level up, some skills make them really OP.

It's a matter of knowing how to optimize it, just like everything in this game.

Esiponage used to work fairly well, but the last patch broke it. I can never succeed at anything.

i almost always get caught, but it looks like it's succeeding... not sure if that's true success or not.

What works for me is sticking my first spy in my Commercial zone, he kills a few enemy spies and gets promotions. By which point i'm usually able to build spy number 2 and I rotate the Newbie into my Commercial zone (AI always seems to go after gold) and send the promoted spy off to steal etc, I gain sources first at the target city and it bumps up the chance of success. I'm able to steal a lot of great works with this. All the while your Newbie spy is killing enemy spies in your Commercial zone. As well, if you build your Campus next to Commercial your spy will protect your tech at the same time.

Whoa I had never expected so much responses! I was just angry because it kept failing :P

Counterspy in your capital is all you need.

Forget the rest.

Spies and Naturalists should be nominated for a Something Rotten Award.

Like raw chicken. It rots pretty hard.

Or ground beef, uncooked. Two days is enough.

Leveling up your spies helps, especially if you assign them to a mission that is helped by a perk that they have. With leveled spies and crypto policy in at late game, you can steal anything you want.

How... do I level up spies?

Espionnage works really great with me, i have no issues stealing art with 50% chance or more,
But as said by Angry Squirl try levelling your spies by doing some missions at 90%, they will gain some xp.

I've tried at 75% but keep losing.
