Didn't you lose amenities because of war weariness? Your people are less content when at war I think.
There are many flaws in diplomacy at the time I think. I still don't understand why my long term ally, Roosevelt, suddenly decided to amass a surprisingly large amount of troops near my borders and waited patiently until the Alliance wore off before declaring a surprise war. It was so obvious that even though I was perplexed at this move I did prepare a welcome commitee and quickly seized control of 5 capitals in less than 4 turns in a blietkrieg style move. I won.
