How to airlift units

How can I airlift units? I put them in my airport and I have researched the corresponding civics.Yet there is still no such option...

Not just Aerodrome, you need to build Airport (building for district, avaialble after Hangar).
Then you will be able to airlift units to other city.

Aerodrome + Hangar + Airport (at both pickup and landing locations), with "Rapid Deployment" civic researched. Hexes must be at airport or immediately adjacent to it.

Icon looks like a plane with a vertical arrow pointing to it, IIRC.

There must be some kind of aircraft at the base, a jet or helicopter, in order for it to work. It's confusing that the option is not greyed out when it's not actually possible.

Also, his response is wrong. It is not necessary for an aircraft or helicopter to be present in order to airlift. You don't even have to own or have ever owned an aircraft or helicopter.

this is not correct. you need airport in source city's aerodrome, airport in target city's aerodrome, discover rapid deployment civic. now any ground unit in or adjacent to source city's city center or aerodrome has the option to "airlift" and may instantly travel to any hex in or adjacent to target city's aerodrome.
