The official Mac thread.
Aspyr is honored to announce the release of Civilization VI Mac!!! This is a thread for all the Apple heads out there. We will do our best to keep the thread updated with the latest information, as well as ongoing Mac details of this amazing game.

First and foremost, lets go over the officially supported system requirements:

Operating System: OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) and MacOS 10.12 (Sierra)
CPU Processor: Intel Core i5 (4 cores)
CPU Speed: 2.7 GHz
Memory: 6 GB
Hard Disk Space: 15 GB
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 6970M
Video Card (NVIDIA): GeForce 775M
Video Card (Intel): Iris Pro
Video Memory (VRam): 1 GB
Peripherals: Macintosh mouse and keyboard, Steam Controller (optional)

Its important to note that our minimum system requirements are based on a comprehensive knowledge of performance throughout the game. In short, we believe the above requirements are enough horsepower to fuel late game and large maps at acceptable frame rates, and we've set the default settings on every Mac for optimal performance within the game itself. Know that turning up any of the default settings will likely result in decreased performance.

We want to give a special shoutout to the fine folks at Firaxis and especially our friends at 2K QA. Without a great deal of cooperation and support from these partners, the Mac release near the Windows release is impossible.

Really?!? I've seen Aspyr now say it is "optimized for Apple Silicon", but that could mean anything. ....
I'd love to be wrong, but my guess is that Civ VI is still wedded to Rosetta (and will continue to need emulation of some sort for the foreseeable future).

You can verify that it isn't running on Rosetta by checking the type in the activity monitor. Is it "Intel" on you M - Mac or "Apple"? If it is "Intel" the it is running on Rosetta. ;)

Good to hear, if hard to believe. :) (I stopped using Macs years ago, long before the switch to ARM architecture CPUs.) Aspyr has been stepping away from the porting business in recent years, thus my reticence to believe they could do a proper port of this game.

So, not sure if this helps anyone:
My M1 Pro Macbook pro had the crashing issues.
I installed Civ VI on my M1 Macbook Air with lower graphic settings and it worked until an autosave. I changed the Autosave to every 100 turns, and manually save before that and I can finish games without a crash.

Thanks for the tip! I tried setting to "all" assuming that means none - or maybe that's not a safe assumption? In any event, got a few dozen turns further into a scenario, then it crashed again.

I have the graphics settings maximized. Maybe I need to fiddle there? I don't know what to turn down/off, though.

I believe "all" does mean none, because "1" means save every turn.

Max Graphics settings might be causing your crash, yeah. I'm not sure what to turn down either though. Probably things that say they will increase performance when turned off. Unless its a memory issue, in which case reduce the memory usage.

One thing I found glitchy on my older computer was Cloud Shadows. Try disabling that, imo.

EDIT: Out of date mods can also cause crashes.

Hi there everyone.

Mac Mini with M2 Pro here (with macOS 15.2 Sequoia). Civ VI can't start: an alert message appears and says that the game is damaged and has to be moved to the trash bin.

Just want to let you know this.

Regards

That happens on every Mac OS version due to Apple's Gatekeeper and Aspyr not fixing their code for it, but there is a workaround:

After receiving the "damaged" error message,
- Open the Mac System Settings.
- Select "Privacy and Security".
- Select "Security Settings"
- In the Security Settings, you should see a prompt saying "Civilization VI was blocked..." Click the "Open Anyway" button under this text.
- Enter your system password if prompted.

I have heard of other problems with Sequoia and Civ 6 though. Do let us know if you can get Civ 6 running on Sequoia successfully!

running it at 1800x1125 on 14 in macbook pro other then that

to answer other question when i check activity monitor it says apple when running
This was working ok for me - until about a week ago - I get to the page where the menu should appear - but am now getting adverts for CIV7 - but the advert is not in the box - to the right of it - and no matter what I do I can not get the menu to appear! On a M1. Any ideas?

The advert is to the right of the box it's supposed to be in? That's quite weird.
(if I'm misinterpreting, a screenshot would greatly help)

Do you have a mod that modifies the menu?
I've seen mods that remove the "Play Now" option from the choices for example.

This mod (if it still works) might help, but will also remove your ability to do the challenges:

EDIT:
I too have an M1, and I do not have this problem.
I'm running Ventura. Which OS are you running?

im currently having issues with the game stating that its damaged and cant be opened on both mine and my partners macbook pro m1 we have no clue on why the game could be damaged. we have tried deleting the game and reinstalling the game and still says that the game is damaged and nothing happens when i try to verify the integrity of the game through steam
Look five posts earlier. The files are not damaged; they're just being rejected by the system security because of an expired certificate.

I was having that problem too, but this website helped me fix it

I can't update the game, i've tried everything.

I recently downloaded civ 6 on my m1 mac, and everything works fine, but the version i've downloaded is 10.0.12.54, which is a problem, because my friend has the latest version, 10.0.12.68 (which is 2 updates ahead). I have tried verifying game files, i've made sure i'm in online mode, i've cleared my download cache, i've made sure that the download settings for the game are set to prioritise civ 6, and i've contacted aspyr support. It still doesn't update. Any help appreciated, as I want to play multiplayer with my friend. IDK why it didn't just download the latest patch when I downloaded the game (a few days ago). Could my download region be the issue? Am I right in thinking that the game should update when I try to launch it?
What did Aspyr Support say?

Also, I've heard other App Stores that aren't Steam sometimes don't get updates as quickly. Though I'd expect them to be updated by now!

EDIT: Ok, I guess you're using the Steam version because you mentioned Download Region and File Verification. Sorry.

That IS weird. I suppose you might have a faulty download region (I don't know how those work). Is there another city somewhat close you could download from?

Aspyr support suggested checking my online status, clearing my download cache, and enabling auto updates, I haven't heard from them for a couple of days, presumably because its the weekend. I should've mentioned I was downloading on steam, that's my bad.

Steam support have suggested that Aspyr haven't pushed 10.0.12.68 out on macos on steam yet. I'm pretty confident that's not true, but it would be nice to get a confirmation from someone.

Initially my download region was set to Georgia (the country), I've changed it to a few different ones in hopes that that would solve my problem. It didn't, and now I can't select Georgia as my download region (it isn't in the list).
