The official Mac thread.
Aspyr is honored to announce the release of Civilization VI Mac!!! This is a thread for all the Apple heads out there. We will do our best to keep the thread updated with the latest information, as well as ongoing Mac details of this amazing game.

First and foremost, lets go over the officially supported system requirements:

Operating System: OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) and MacOS 10.12 (Sierra)
CPU Processor: Intel Core i5 (4 cores)
CPU Speed: 2.7 GHz
Memory: 6 GB
Hard Disk Space: 15 GB
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 6970M
Video Card (NVIDIA): GeForce 775M
Video Card (Intel): Iris Pro
Video Memory (VRam): 1 GB
Peripherals: Macintosh mouse and keyboard, Steam Controller (optional)

Its important to note that our minimum system requirements are based on a comprehensive knowledge of performance throughout the game. In short, we believe the above requirements are enough horsepower to fuel late game and large maps at acceptable frame rates, and we've set the default settings on every Mac for optimal performance within the game itself. Know that turning up any of the default settings will likely result in decreased performance.

We want to give a special shoutout to the fine folks at Firaxis and especially our friends at 2K QA. Without a great deal of cooperation and support from these partners, the Mac release near the Windows release is impossible.

FIXED THIS ISSUE:

I had the exact same problem last night with several friends. The Windows players could join easily but the Mac’s couldn’t. They couldn’t even join each others game.

Here’s the fix that solved it for us:

Go to your steam library, right click civ, open properties, go to Betas, type “ineedlegacyaccess”, click the button that appears to install the legacy version of the game (it’s the version prior to this current build which works fine). It’s a 1GB update so should be done in no time for you!

Hope that helps

i had some issues with the interminable loading screen when creating or loading a game. I sampled the process - and I didn't see anything representing an error. Plus the application (civ vi) still had mouse response.
Then i remembered - we had issues with thread spawning. The solution was to change some parameters in the settings file - /Users/***/Library/Application Support/Sid Meier's Civilization VI/UserOptions.txt -
i wasn't sure what to change - so i just modified the first line (version number) which allowed the game to use its defaults.
This file hadn't been changed by reinstalling the Civ VI game.

Anyway -
with the default UserOptions.txt file - my loading issues stopped and i was able to use all of my mods (mostly user interface mods - like better reporting).
I hope this change - just resetting the options to default - will help someone else - cuz this was very annoying.

This is the only thing that worked for me after trying just about every other suggestion in this thread. I'm playing multiplayer with a windows user and they had to do the same thing to be able to play with me. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
The game now start but I have the problem of graphic glitch, black stripes everywhere, it's impossible to play.

just removed Version line then it worked for me. Now I can play
The black stripes thing can be resolved by changing the view to (if I remember correctly) tactical. This has the effect of giving you graphics that look rather like CIV III…

Thx a lot !
But i have some questions. Does this manipulation change the mods? And should windows players do the same?

Downloaded today's update and now it's perma stuck on "loading"
OS 12.6.1 (21G217) M2 Air
Second update this year on the Mac that didn't work, I got worried when it said it was applying an update and kinda of breathed a sigh or relief when the game menu came up, but the after going to resume game... I got the "Loading, please wait...." then .... nope it just stayed on that screen.

"Loading Please Wait"..... forever.... cant start a game.

Game was fine 6 hours ago. Did nothing to my laptop and came back later to play a few rounds. Nothing. Was there an update while I was gone for the afternoon?

MBP M2

Yep, same as me. Tried verifying local files, uninstalling DLC, removing all mods, deleting and reinstalling the whole game, still eternal "loading" screen, for all games.

Air M2
It would be cool if they would test their mac version's before pushing them out, like a professional would

My Steam games all say "download queued". I've played hundreds of hours of Civ 6 and this issue just started a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to play since. Disabled my firewall. Changed region. Uninstalled Steam AND Civ 6 and reinstalled. No luck. WTF is going on here????
Ok, I finally got me game to start and run "smoothly" once I did the System Settings and privacy acceptance workaround, but now my graphics are super glitchy. I get horrible fog of war black lines across the screen about 20 turns in, and it only gets worse as the game goes on until it's virtually unplayable.

If the mods worked on the previous version they should still work in theory (at least all mine still do). And everyone playing in the lobby has to be on the legacy version for it to work, even windows players. Hopefully it’s patched soon
Macbook Pro M1 Max, new patch, disc write error???
