The official Mac thread.
Aspyr is honored to announce the release of Civilization VI Mac!!! This is a thread for all the Apple heads out there. We will do our best to keep the thread updated with the latest information, as well as ongoing Mac details of this amazing game.

First and foremost, lets go over the officially supported system requirements:

Operating System: OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) and MacOS 10.12 (Sierra)
CPU Processor: Intel Core i5 (4 cores)
CPU Speed: 2.7 GHz
Memory: 6 GB
Hard Disk Space: 15 GB
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 6970M
Video Card (NVIDIA): GeForce 775M
Video Card (Intel): Iris Pro
Video Memory (VRam): 1 GB
Peripherals: Macintosh mouse and keyboard, Steam Controller (optional)

Its important to note that our minimum system requirements are based on a comprehensive knowledge of performance throughout the game. In short, we believe the above requirements are enough horsepower to fuel late game and large maps at acceptable frame rates, and we've set the default settings on every Mac for optimal performance within the game itself. Know that turning up any of the default settings will likely result in decreased performance.

We want to give a special shoutout to the fine folks at Firaxis and especially our friends at 2K QA. Without a great deal of cooperation and support from these partners, the Mac release near the Windows release is impossible.

yes, me too. Looking at other posts, there is an issue with 'asprey" whoever they are....sounds bad to me.

Don't bother with Aspyr. They don't respond and eventually just mark your ticket as solved without actually doing anything. CIV VI on the Mac has been broken for more than 2 years. They did a patch a few months ago which made it less broken. When I mean less broken, I mean a crash doesn't take down the whole computer forcing you to reboot. Now it just crashes to finder. It's probably 3-4 times a game. Really annoying but as long as you have frequent auto saves, it's doable. I'm just tired of this crap company not supporting their products. Seems fraudulent to me.

Having a problem with the main menu when I start the game, several of the buttons are missing from the top of the main menu and the physical position and the actual position of my mouse is off by like two inches or more. I am using a 2020 M1 Macbook Pro. I should also mention the game doesn't have this issue when I hook it up to my second monitor.

This happened to me before with the same computer. In my case, two things caused this: a mod conflicting with the game or having borderless fullscreen (or whatever it is called) enabled in the launch screen. Tinker with those, Hope this helps.

Unable to launch this game for the past few days.

Half the time I would go full screen in the past the main menu wouldn't pop up, so I would also make sure to click the "Settings" tab on the right of the launcher and choose Windowed.

However, recently the launcher is now zoomed in... so I can't even see that settings tab, and the main menu isn't popping up in full screen AT ALL. I have re-installed the game already, no idea why the launcher is literally zoomed in by like 15%. Any ideas?

I also can't access the full screen/window option, perhaps because of this same zooming issue.

Hi, on M1 Macbook, the main menu looks broken. Menu items are shown partially and the cursor looks misaligned, could hardly find the exit button. Any known fixes?

Hello,

As the tiles implies im facing a tsunami of desyncs while playing civ 6 multiplayer. I just received my new M1 Macbook Pro. There are 2 patterns that i could'v identify so far, as follows:

Game starts without any problems, after everybody in the lobby checks for the same mod version, and no 0ms pings. Turn 1 passes without problem. Turn 2 desyncs and from here on every 2 turns i get a desync

The same as point 1. but after 2-3 desyncs everything runs ok for another 20-30 turns when the desyncs return.

Important mentions:

I am playing on CPL where there are 3 mods mandatory: BBS, BBG and MPH (the 3 most popular mods)

What i tried:

Installed/Reinstalled mods

Reinstall game

Different resolutions and in-game settings

Boost fans for maximum performance (for me it is clear that this desync issue has nothing to do with a lack of performance)

Change autosave interval to 10 turns instead of 1

I tried to find an event logs for Civ 6 but there was nothing to be found so far. Maybe somebody can guide me on where i can find such thing. Any help would be of great use for me. I can't belive nobody on Mac can play this game. I'm sure there is a way to debug this.

Many thanks!

From a different source:
I've found this to work on my M1 MacBook Air:

Go to: /Users/YOURNAMEHERE/Library/Application Support/Sid Meier's Civilization VI
Open AppOptions.txt
Change render width to: RenderWidth 2560
Change render width to: RenderWidth 1440
And those two numerical values are the native resolution of your screen. In my case it's a 27 inch 1440p/144Hz Eizo Foris, it all suddenly looked amazing.

The saved values did persist. Although the issue I have now is that Civ6 on the Apple M1 (8/8) chip is not very fast and way too frustrating to play. But that's another issue for another day.

Not played in a couple of weeks, and between then and now had OS update from 12.0.1 to 12.1 and a steam update. This morning I find it unplayable. Get to the main menu and there is a title but nothing below it. Background still moving, music playing, but no menu to play or select options. Trying to force a quit and I get the exit to desktop ok/cancel but can't click on either, I have to go to Activity Monitor to force a quit. Mac Pro spec (12-core Xeon E5, 128gb memory, 2tb SSD, dual AMD FirePro D500 graphic cards), tried a second time after a reboot and same thing.

Help needed!
I bought Civ VI in the winter sale and got all excited to finally see what it's all about, however, after successfully installing the game I'm still unable to play it. The game launches but there's no window that's opening. I've tried reinstalling the game and also verifying the local files. I'm running Steam on the following system:
Mac Mini (Late 2014)
OS: Catalina (10.15)
Processor: 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Forget making this game available for other platform, make it stable first, fix the civic tree not showing on Multiplayer games, fix desync, fix lockups, fix crashes.

What Mac OS are you running?
I've found Sierra (10.12) to be best for Civ 6. But I haven't tried higher in a while; they may have fixed it. That was mainly just choppiness in the units moving around, though... the only times I got a frozen Civ 6 app when I opened it, just quitting and reopening Steam fixed it.

It always works for me fine if I play in Windowed mode, on macOS Monterey. Occasional crashes but if I autosave every turn, not a big deal.

I'm running Catalina (10.15). Other less demanding games run fine on here. Civ VI just never opened properly. :(
