What language does Tomyris speak?
I can't tell what language she speaks in this game. Anyone has any idea? Purely out of curiosity.

I've been wondering that as well, seeing as Scythian languages are still a mystery to modern liguists. It would have to be some knid of Persian/Iranian dialect but I don't know what they used for the game.

Its weird but kinda interesting to see some nations speak English and some their own language..

For instance, Peter the Great speaks Russian while our loved Gandhi speaks English in some occasions.

I noticed that too. He speaks Hindi (I think) most of the time, and then switches to English out of nowhere.

Thank you. Sucks that it doesn't tell you that in the Civ-pedia thing or the Civ wikia.

Ghandi did live in British India, so I reckon he was multilanguaged.

also means I can finally understand something he's saying, yay

Fair enough. Also, they do have subtitles, though apparently the voice actors aren't always good.

Apparently, in Civ V, the guy voicing Attila The Hun was terrible (he was trying to mimic Chuvash dialect and he wasn't proficient at it), so people who actually spoke the dialect said they couldn't really understand him.

For some reason people think that all steppe nomads are turks.

She speaks Ossetian, which is a direct descendant of Scythian spoken by the Ossetian people of the Caucasus. They themselves are descended from the Alans, who were a Sarmatian people; very closely related to the Scythians to the point of speaking the same language.

English is one of the two official languages in India, as well as Hindi.

Bit late but...
Yeah, from what I read the Hun voice actor did not speak Chuvash at all, and was reading his lines not even knowing what he was saying. Downside of getting voice actors you can't understand I suppose.

I do wonder though how this games voice acting is compared to V. I've only heard complaints about Catherine de medici for having an Italian dialect. Given she was Italian, it was a very silly complaint.

This is off now, (sorry?) but I do love that she switches to Italian when talking about the tiny details you should be paying attention to.

First of all Turkish people are an extension of Turkic people. Actually at least 3 quarters of Turkic people being nomadic, lots of nations in the world are connected to Turkic people one way or another. (for example the genetically the most close cousins of Turkish people are English people (related to how both nations are connected with Trojans and through them, the Etruscans) followed by Bulgarian people, Turkic people and Finnish people)

The ethnics origins of Scythians is highly debated subject, most the debates as a result of increasing Eurocentrism regarding history of Turks... well because apparently recently the origins of European people turned out to be overlapping the Turkic homeland of Central Asia historically named Turan or Eden in some other historical maps.

Scythians are one of the most important Turkic people in Turkic history Tomyris is the granddaughter of Alp Er Tunga (named Afrasiab by the Persians) who was killed by the Persians. Tomyris later avenged her grandfather (and also her son) by killing Cyrus.

Persians are like the nemesis of Turks both in Turkic and Persian history. Persians name the Turks as Tur. (The word Tur is the origin of the Turkic etyhnonym)
