need help with religion spread not working
I have a city in my realm that is at 10 pop, 8 of which are my religion, 1 is someone elses whove i've eliminated, and the last one is atheist. I've thrown 4 missionaries at this city, each with 3 spreads and i cant convert the last 2 guys.

Is religion in Civ6 like arguing over the internet where once someone has their mind made up, they stop listening?

I just trained up 4 apostles to do the same thing, maybe missionaries are bugged? anyone having similar issues?

Not sure if this is right, but you can try an Inquisition in your city to get rid of the heretics!

i launched it... i got the achievo for it... but i dont think it did anything... like, the city is still 1 atheist and 1 other... is there some kind of mini game for the spanish inquisition?

Launching the inquisition doesn't remove other religions, it just allows you to build inquisitors (which can then remove other religions).

Still, throwing 12 spread religion charges at it probably should have worked.

i wish the religion circle/bar was more informative and at the same time, showed at all times when i look at the religion lense.

I have a problem where when I look at my city's information panel and view Religion, it shows my religion is the only one (2 citizen) but the religion icon next to the city name is some other religion, even though the city has no believers of that religion. In another city (the city where my religion was founded) the icon is my religion but there are more believers of another religion. None of this makes sense to me.

I'm wondering about this too. Sometimes when I send missionaries to convert cities no converts are made. I mean, I understand if it was just one person at a time, but nothing happens. The numbers don't change. The only thing I can figure is that the other religion you're working against has a belief that makes them resistant? I know that can be an option in Civ 5 (though I haven't seen it in any of my games in Civ 6 yet)

Religeous war is BROKEN. I just noticed MY apostles adding the opponent's religeon instead of mine when trying to re-establish mine in a city they visited. ALSO what's really messed up is there's no way to RESIST prosletysers, like you can spies and armies, with occupation by friendly units. Not only that, but it is REALLY UNREALISTIC that normal soldiers are not able to kill religeous figures.

Nothing broken there, those are just the rules. If you train religious units in a city that has been converted, they will spread that religion instead. Don't allow all your holy site cities to be converted or you are pretty much out of the religion game. If it didn't work like that, no one would ever win a religious victory.

Soldiers can and will kill anyreligious unit with ease, you just need to declare war for that one.

Without declaring war, you fight back enemy religious units with inquisitors and apostles in religious combat. Defeating them will weaken their religion in the vicinity and stregthen your own. But don't get your defenders killed for it works the other way round, too.

And you can go the cheesy way of defending your cities by placing cheap military like scouts all around the city center so no one can move next to it and spend a charge to convert.

this is another thing not spelled out anywhere: If you want to heal your religious units, they have to be in a holy site, or city hex. the game lets you click the fortify until healed button while not on these sites and never warns you that this has no effect.

if a big city has no religion its best to use apostles, they are far better then missionaries
and the bigger the city the more points you need to convert it
you will need tons of missionaries to convert a 10+ city where a single apostle with triple conversion strenght bonus can do it alone

missionaries are actually quite useless, sure theyre cheaper but you need tons of them where one apostle with the right bonus is far more effective
Only time i buy a missionary is at start of game to place religion in my own cities and thats it, other then that they have no use

Your unit can also be adjacent to the holy site and it will heal. But you are correct, it's stupid that they don't grey out buttons that do nothing, like the same function for naval vessels when they don't have the repair in neutral waters experience achievement yet the button still shows up in neutral waters. They need to fix the UI.

why would it need to tell you, these things you know, and if you dont you learn them and become better ...

This is only half true.

Missionaries are usually sufficient to convert cities with no dominant religion. 1 Missionary is enough to convert a city of size 9. An unpromoted Apostle will convert a city of size 10 for a much higher price.

While a triple strength Apostle is more potent, you will pay more faith to recruit him without knowing for sure that you get Translator as a possible promotion (unless you are suzerain of Yerewan of course). Also using Apostles to convert might not be the best use for them, you may want them primarily to fight religious battles and die a Martyr's death to get a relic instead.

The one conversion case where Apostles truly outclass Missionaries is when you have the Proselytizer promotion and try to get a city that already has a majority religion. This is where Missionaries are near useless and Apostles make your day.

For all the conversion duty concerning agnostics, I'd consider it a waste to spend Apostle charges on them when Missionaries will do fine.
