how to combine units??

Two identical units adjacent to each other once you unlock the ability to do so. You'll see an icon with 2 (corps/fleet) or 3 (army/armada) star icons in the row where promotions show up. When you see the icons, have the one with XP (if applicable) click the starred icon, a blue highlight shows beneath the compatible unit, L click on the 2nd unit, they should combine.

You need to get the civic tech that allows for corps and fleets.. Then u can combine 2 into one.. But I'm not a fan. Two units of 50 strength each are much better then 1 unit of 60 strength

Civ Nationalism allows the forming of two identical units into a Corps or Fleet.

Civ Mobilization allows the forming of three identical units into an Army or Armada.

unless you're zulu, then it's corps with mercenaries and army with nationalism, and if the proper civic is already unlocked, capturing a city with a single unit will turn it into a corps , or capturing a city with a corps will turn it into an army

At the very least you were adding info that matters in the current game and wasn't available originally. The person who necro'd just dug it out to repeat the answer that had already been given.
