How do you use a seige tower?
I'm attempting to attack an enemy city with a Siege tower, however it cannot seem to attack. It says it bypasses any encamped troops, but it doesn't seem to actually attack anything.

anybody been able to use it successfully yet?

It's a support unit. Support units don't attack (or defend; they automatically lose battles if attacked unescorted). Bring along a melee unit.

Pretty sure it doesnt work. I've tried using it and it hasnt worked for me so I think it is broken.

If you put a siege tower by the wall and place a combat unit on top of the siege unit, the combat unit will attack the city ignoring the city walls. It will attack the city health.

You use it along with another unit - not on its own.

So 'chain it' to a melee unit - infantry or cavalry - and the 2 will move as one.

Advance upon the enemy walls (and its only good if there are walls)

Once you get to the encampment / city you can now attack without having to worry about the outer blue ring (i.e. the wall defenses) and instead when you attack you will be affecting the inner green ring (i.e. the city health / defenses).

Get it? You are bypassing the wall defenses because you are using the siege tower.

It's amazing what you can learn if you just read the simple tool tips that accompany the units..

Battering ram works very similarly, except instead of bypassing walls it makes melees units do a bunch more damage to the wall hp bar so you knock them down faster. I am unsure what happens if you bring both to a siege...

I like to ask when does the Siege Tower becomes obsolete that you are not able to build it? There is nothing in the Civilopedia or wiki that has this information.

I won a dom game where I was still using a seige tower, while mech infantry were rolling by it. Funny screenshot..these guys pushing a wooden tower around as a bomber flies over head.

Siege towers work best with units that have ranged defence like the Kongo UU. Or Legion with Tortoise promotion.

I tend to prefer battering rams. Cos once you kill the wall you can take your time to seige the city.

Surround it with your melee units until you see the "broken heart" icon. That means the city won't heal (while your units will) :steamhappy:
