Cannot build Archaeologist
How do i build this thing?
I have researched Natural History, I have a Distirict with an University in my Capital and i still dont find it in my Unit list. I also have 3 pops working on the science district. What am i doing wrong?

Thanks for the community effort any your feedback!

ANSWER: After some trial and error, here is the answer....

The Archaeologist does NOT have any charges - ergo he cannot disappear!
Update: He does disappear if all 3 Slots in your Archaeological Museum are filled.

The following conditions must be met:
Natural History must be researched. Found under Civic Tab!
This enables you to build an Archaeological Museum in your Theater Square. (Careful you can also build an Art Museum these both are mutually exclusive!)
Finishing the Archaeological Museum entitle you to build 1 Archaeologist – yes it will appear in the Units list of your city that your Museum is in.
Hope this helps!

Got the same problem. Build district, build archeology museum, researched it beforehand obv. Got no way of buying/building it in any city.

Great to see this thread. I was going to post also that I cannot figure out how to create them even though I have the Archaelogy museum up for a while now. I also built TerraCotta army (which affects archaelogists) and still I cannot find a way to create them. And I tried every trick I could think of. Thanks,
There's a civic that unlocks them. They don't unlock from research anymore.

I don't know if this answer the question, but only a city with a theatre square and an archeology museum can build 1 and exactly 1 archeologist. This guy can then unearth 3 artifacts for display in the museum of that specific city where he got created. The unit disappears after 3 uses.
That's how it worked in my game at least.

For me they just popped under units as soon as i had build my Archaeological Museum in my city.
I did already have the Natural Histroy Civic (search it in the civics tech tree).
I think you need both.

My theory is that you can only build 1 for each museum as the museum has 3 spots and unit has 3 charges. Might have to build another museum to make more.

I had an Archaeologist that i could use 3 times, and one disappeared after one use, i also could only build it in one town, even tho i got two towns with archeological museum + theatre square.

Maybe it's a bug, but my archaeologist definitely disappeared. I had it in escort with a pikeman and it disappeared immediately after the third use. The pikeman was still there but the archaeologist was gone. Now I can't build or buy one in any of my cities.

The trick is to collect artifacts with your Archaeologist, and to trade them away at the same rate for other great works, like great works of art. That way, your archaeological museum does not fill up completely, and your archaeologist can keep working continuously.

This thread from 2016 is old and dead. Also, from what I understand you cannot trade/transfer artifacts out of a museum until it has been filled completely with artifacts (3 slots normally, I believe 6 slots for England).

Lemmie get the dust off this thread :featherduster: and add a little something to it:

If you find that you have met all the requirements and still can't build an archaeologist, check the "Great Works" tab to see if your archaeological museum is maybe already filled with artifacts as you can also acquire them through trade deals or as part of a peace offering from your opponents.

I'm in the future in 2024 but I have
* researched Natural History
*built an archaeology museum in Toronto
*there is no option to train an archaeologist in Toronto's production list. Just for the hell of it I checked the production options for all my cities and, of course, nothing.
*I have done a search for 'archaeologist' and come up with 0 so I did build one and then forget about it.

It goes from Settler, Builder, Trader (grayed out) to Bombard. That's it. I don't play with mods so it's not a mod issue.
It's very frustrating trying to find a solution to this problem because so many answers assume you don't know what you're doing and give you information you already know.
ETA: I just had a thought. I'm pretty sure I purchased the archaelogical museum with Faith but that has not been an issue in the past. It just seemed worth mentioning that it seems like the kind of thing that could trigger a bug or confuse the AI. Like I said, just a thought.
