Wow. I think it's beautiful to see people with different opinions, and it's really bad for you to have this experience : / I would not have expected it though. I adore the music in this game and a friend of mine who came over to check it out noticed it positively immediately too.
What exactly don't you like about it? As which Civs did you play?
I played as China and Germany/Greece (hotseat with said friend) so far, and encountered Japan, Norway, America and the Aztecs, and not a single melody sounded annoying to me...
I get that. I do the same with The Witcher 3. People found that very weird but for me the music killed the immersion totally. Which Civ however? Loving it.
The intro music is incredible; I wish the rest of the music were equally good. The music in every past Civ game has been absolutely epic--Civ IV's music is my favorite, but I loved III's, and back in the day, I used the music from II to make Windows 3.1 themes. It's always been hard to miss, it's right there pulling you in deeper. I've loved that about past Civ games. But this soundtrack doesn't have that epic quality.
*There is one song that makes me cringe, and it probably highlights why I don't like the music. It's the French Medieval music. I've heard that song many times before at my preferred renaissance faire. The version used in Civ VI is so...technical. It's accurate and recognizable, but it's missing the character that makes it a catchy, enjoyable song. I was so disappointed when I noticed this one.
When I get back to Civ VI after the next patch (got a few games on the Halloween sale to play through now), I'm going to shut off the game music and play my own collection. I've never done that with a game before. ):
Exactly how I feel about it. It's just so repetitive it turns into a white noise lol.
My workaround is to mute the game music and listen to Yanni Radio on Google Play. It's not unpleasant and it's completely forgettable, as should be all in-game music.
