Can someone explain Amenities?
I've never been good at the game, but I played the crap out of Civilization 5. I don't recall amenities in the game. What are they? Last time I played, I ran low on them and there were some issues in my civilzation. What do I need to do to keep my amenities up? Resources?

Amenities is essentially happiness, low amenities means you need either more luxury resources or entertainment buildings/districts.

Amenities is basically happiness per city. You get 1 amenity per luxury resource worked by a city (I don't think you get more than 1 for 2+ of the same kind). You can also get ameneties from building an Entertainment District. The colleseum wonder is amazing, if you build it within 6 tiles of all your cities you get a huge boost to ameneities aka happiness

The game says each source of lux resources adds 1 amenity to up to 4 cities, which sounds like you need multiple sources of each. The AIs will still spam trade you for all but 1 of your sources though.

Honestly the best way to answer your question is when in game click on the question mark in the top right hand corner and type in amenites, the civilopedia will normally have the answer to most of your questions.

Now, does anyone know how many new citizens in the city are needed to "consume" or "occupy" 1 available amenity?

Yeah, I'll start doing this. Thanks for the answers, guys.

They say explitectly that multiple sources of a luxury good are only effective for the first one which will be used for (up to) 4 cities and would be used at the cities that need the amentity help the most. Any additional sources of that luxury good that you have are ONLY good for trading purposes.

Yes, I always read the Civilopedia, but the description of amenities didn't help me.

So, no matter where you improve an amenity, it will help all cities you own (up to four, I guess)? Is that correct? So, if I work an amenity in one city, a different city that is low on amenities will get the help it needs?

Your first copy of a luxury resource will help exactly four, and amenities are auto-distributed to cities that need them. Your second, third copy etc. of the same luxury resource is useless except for trading or as a backup if you're worried about being pillaged (and, as an aside, you don't need more than two copies of a strategic resource, either).

Entertainment districts have some choices for amenity-producing buildings. Some wonders are also good for them. Long, bloody wars and bankruptcy are to be avoided.

You also don't need more than 1 of a strategic resource if you have built an encampment district and use it to produce your strategic military units.

I keep getting a note that says I need more housing? how do i get more housing?
vonboysp Oct 24, 2016 @ 6:02am
I know Granary and aquaducts and some other buildings add more housing. Each farm/camp/plantation/fishing boats add a little bit of housing.

There's also some geoverment policy cards that add housing in your cities.

Thank you, Toaster. Is there an easy way to see how many of each luxury resource I have? Or do I just have remember to scour the map and look to see if I have built an upgrade on each resource icon?

Is there a log or list somewhere that shows you how many of each resource you already have?

Things like farms give housing, I think. Also, certains buildings give housing. Before you build some stuff, look at the after effects of each buidlings.

All kinds of things, from city buildings to fresh water to disticts to civics give housing. Although, just because a city is calling for more housing doesn't mean you "need" more housing. If you have a comfortable population to make use of all of a city's important tiles with citizens, there's not much reason to grow it much larger, unless you have specific plans for that population when you get it, because otherwise you're only creating people for the purpose of feeding them amenities. If that statement makes sense to you, you're on your way to a trim, efficient empire.
