Is Emperor Mode Supposed To Be That Hard?
Everytime I see another country close by, it's always ahead in the tech tree, and with tons of army. Do they have a handicap of some sort where they progress through the tech tree faster? Is there something I don't know about?

That's how it's like with the civ games, harder mode just means the AI gets super bonuses or have to pay for certain things

I've just been playing it on begineer mode to suss out the mechanics of districts, etc. (even turned barbarians off).

Ended up next to Harold Bluetooth, who declared war on me. Managed to fight him off with a a few units.

He's now leading the pack for military, with twice the score I have, (And I've got musektmen, 10 of them to try and ensure he doesn't attack me. I have 670 points for military, in 2nd place out of 8, he has something stupid like 1,700 in 1st, the one below me has something like 500 points)... He's just spamming them out.

Can't even imagine what he would be doing on a higher settings. Game seems broken to me a bit.

Damn. That is crazy if you are dealing with someone who has twice the military score than you. I am gonna give "king" a shot, and hope it is easier. I restarted 5-6 times as Japan because I either was surrounded or attacked by another country, or that I was behind in era against other countries. I always wanted the resource "niter" to rush to gunpowder, but I just can't find it!

In my first game (emperor, epic ) I had 3 Ais closeby that all settled their 2nd city on turn 8!
I guess its save to say they get an additional Settler to start with (more likely than a 100% or even more bonus to production and food (although there will most likely be some bonus to production, food, gold, sience and culture, I think to remember something that it scaled between 10 and 50% from king to deity in either civ IV or V)

Will have to try it, the game seems far too easy on King difficulty. I get the feeling they put no effort into making a good AI, seems really silly.

Your information means alot. I honestly though I just really really sucked at this game. I thought I was too stupid to play a turn based game. Thank you Drugal. Do you think Emperor mode on Civ 5 is easier than emperor mode on Civ 6. Let me know if you know the answer!

I will give king a shot. If it's too easy, I'll head back to emperor again and try to figure out a way to win more cities.

I have only done the one try on emporer so far and compüared to my current king game I would say I had a bad start maybe because of high sea level (was on random while it is standard now) or just due to unlucky placement (3 civs less than 15 tiles away), so I cant realy compare it to civ V in that reguard.

However,in my current king game I am having a harder keeping the peace compared to my last emporer game in civ V last week and the game feels much faster one epic (1940 AD in civ 5 was around 1100 turns, am am currently at turn 271 and 1250 AD 2nd one to enter the reinesance and half way through after Russia already in industrial era).
But since its the first game (after the messed up start on emporer) I waisted some time here and there by forgetting to switch techs for a turn or two, mismicroing settler movement, etc, the kind of stuff you need to get used to to care about or do it the opposite way as before ;)

The most important change imo is the fact that building wide is no longer punished by unhappieness and the AI knows it. Expanding needs to be done faster than in civ V and building walls is highly recommended.

Emperor mode, epic, huge (12).
2-3 AI have entered modern era. Turn 335, Y1570.

Nice insight! Thanks!
