The real point is that adding a rename feature and 'fixing the AI' are not comparable tasks. Adding the first takes literally a few minutes (provided they have their stuff in order), while fixing AI issues can take a lot of effort (and often causes other AI issues as a result). Similarly adding 'more content' takes a while.
Personally I have almost exclusively played multiplayer so far (4/6 games) and so tweaking the AI would have made no difference to more than 70% of my experience, whereas I used to find renaming cities a right laugh in civ 5.
Was it by Gorgo, by any chance?
^ not ideal solution but it is possible
last played 28. october. dirty liar. got no refund and continued playing the game unable to name cities. yeah, you are a dirty liar, remember that the next time you look into the mirror.
On an Earth-clone map, I change city names to match their locations. This helps me remember where they are and improves my knowledge of geography.
On generated maps, I like to give city names like Forest Island, German Hills, Mount Copper, Battle Bay. I find it much easier to remember and keep track of everything going on. It gives me a stronger connection to my empire and a better experience.
On massive maps, I depend on the city name to record the order they were founded and their location: 05_Beta_SW or #26_02North_13East.
I hope this simple but impactful feature returns soon.
For what it's worth, you can use Pins now. And it has been said by the devs they wanted this to be in the base game but a bug happened or something?
Either way city renaming should be returning in the next patch.
