Stuck at the "loading, please wait" screen

Anyone here with the same problem as I? The game opens up but do not leave this first loading screen. To exit you need to restart the pc because you cant put any other screen or program in the first plan, not even the task manager.

Adding the Civ folder to Windows Defender exclusion list worked for me as well. Thank you very much knollypodium!

Are we sure it's Windows Defender causing the issue? Isn't the game itself more questionable if it triggers the security program in the first place?

If we add the exclusion, wouldn't that compromise our security?

I don't have Windows Defender turned on and I have the same issue.

I dont have windows Defender turned on and i never have. Its too much of a coincidence to exclusively blame Windows Defender, it cant just be that program otherwise i would not have the exact same issue as those who have now "fixed" it by excluding it in Windows Defender. In any case, i had this problem start without any windows updates installed prior. Two things appear to work for me, run it as administrator & waiting at the loading screen for 10/15 mins. After waiting you can exit to main menu and start a new game or a save and its fine but once you exit and reload you have to wait the 10/15 mins again, im just happy i picked up the run as admin tip. Surely, someone witrh technical knowledge can advise what sort of problem is solved by running it as admin?

game ran fine, then it crashed to desktop. Didn't have time to play, so, came back hours later....
no saved game would load.

Added civ 6 folder to windows defender exclusion, works perfect again..

Really annoyed. Game gets stuck on Loading, please wait... My computer is a beast and should have no trouble playing this game. Releasing things that are broken should not be an issue anymore. Come on.

Yeah really annoying. I know this isn't a fix, although just to save some hassle. When you alt + ctr + delete, you can open task manager, you just can't see it. If you press the down arrow once it should select your game and then just press alt + e and it should close your game.

Can confirm after adding an exclusion through Windows Defender, i've been able to now launch my save game, whereas before it just got stuck at loading screen.

Omg, this was happening to me the first day, before I ~fixed~ it executing as administrator...and I tried everything to change it to the first screen or kill the process without sucess. Hahaha

I had the same issue that others reported, was working until Sunday. Windows Defender exclusion didn't work, but installing visual C++ redist 64-bit did work.
