1. No shared technology - in civ 5 and BE civilizations on the same team shared technology research. To compensate for this the amount of point to research a tech was multiplied by the number of players. The reason this is extremely important is because it allows the players on the team to work together to advance technology for the whole team - which means if one player gets a bad start they aren't screwed, it just slows down technology a little bit for the group - and if another player gets a good start it evens things out. This also allows for specialization - one player on the team can focus on technology while the other focuses on production and military.
2. No shared vision from the start - teams share vision of everything their teammates can see from turn 1. This allows you to see what your friends are doing and share knowledge of the map easily as well as allowing you to explore and build towards eachother so you are able to assist militarily if the need arises.
3. No shared victory - even if you are allied that doesn't affect the victory conditions. When you are on a team the team wins or loses together. In an alliance only one player wins.
The first two points (especially technology sharing) are the most impactful, the last one is just a nausance.
Oh boy GJ moron 2k lol
Thank you for contacting 2K Support and for your question about Civilization VI.
Currently, the Teams function is disable in Civ VI. I understand that this is frustrating as many see it as an important part of multiplayer games. 2K Support has no insight as to if and when this feature will be implemented in the game.
Although there is no information to release on this topic, we appreciate the fact that you are interested in our games and recommend staying tuned to @2K on Twitter and https://blog.2k.com/ for all announcements related to upcoming games.
If you have any additional issues or questions please let me know.
Best regards,
John J.

It probably means there was discovered issues with it late in the development, which caused them to remove it temporarely to avoid game breaking bugs for example. It is sad, but it will be implemented again once they have fixed it.
