while all of your poitns are valid i will say this in defence of endless legend they did just release new dlc, so i wouldnt say its quite dead yet.
Stellaris is still dwarfed by distant worlds universe as it stands, though hopefully it will develop more and more. As for Endless legend and civ being completely different genres of game, I feel I have to disagree. Both these games are a game were y ou have a world to colonize, you pick a race, research techs, go to war etc, however endless legend seems to just do it a lot better. Its not just endless legent that I feel has beaten all teh civ games though: Pandora first contact, was an amazing game that also made the civ series look pretty bad by comparison. Lets not forget that civ 5 was the 5th try in a series of games and it still didnt compare to either pandora or endless legend. I felt civ 5 was a MASSIVE let down, which offered notyhing new other than ranged combat with archers, that just began to feel hollow after a while. The diplomacy in civ 5 was incredibly poor and in many respects if felt like the game had been dumbed down a lot from earlier incarnations of the civ series. I cant help but feel like the makers of civ have fallen into the trap of just riding the gravy train of their player base whilst offering nothing new or inovative in terms of gameplay mechanics.
More to the point, Endless Legend received a massive expansion release less than a week ago. It is hardly "done".
And, finally, Stellaris has barely anything in common with either EL or Civ6, other than the fact that it's a 4x. It's real time, in space, with a 100% different resource and research system. It is a fine game, but...
At least try to fact check such sweeping statements.
Endless Legend is a phenomenal game that is a fantasy twist on Civ, with some streamlined processes. The latest expansion, Tempest, really fleshes out the game. On that note, the Endless series goes on sale several times a year. I would wait for it to go on sale so you can scoop up all the DLC at the same time. While the base game is more than fine, its DLC adds a load of content, from a revamping of the Winter mechanic, which of instead of being a thorn can add great variety of gameplay elements, an in-depth naval system, and an espionage system. The world-building in EL is amazing with its quest system and overarching grand quests.
I was wary of pre-purchasing Civ 6 but im a sucker for 4x games. Civ 4 was my first entry into Civ series, and it was much better than Civ 5 until BNW. Haven't touched 4 since BNW. Hoping the same mistakes aren't rehashed as with Civ 5 vanilla (lesser extent G&K) and Beyond Earth. From the streams today, it is much more well rounded than Civ 5 vanilla was. The districting is a nice lift from how Endless Legend uses regions and cities with Firaxis' own twist.
Other than that though, I wouldn't say it was particularly more complex than Sins of a Solar Empire or any of the Total War games.
Stellaris has no depth whatsoever. Endless Legend has more depth than Civ 6 currently, only because it's been released for a long time now, and has been extensively supported.

^^^This is all you need to know.
I have both and Endless Legend might be my favorite 4x. They are different games and Civilization definitely has the edge when it comes to mods.
