How do you avoid early game wars on Deity?
Getting real sick of getting completely ganked on turn twenty by a surprise war from Babylon or Korea.

On Standard speed, the AI will always accept a delegation on the first turn you meet them. This will offset some or all of the negative first impression modifier the AI gets as you increase the difficulty. Other than that, your options are hoping the AI spawns far enough away that they don't see you as easy pickings or they have a hidden agenda that is easy to satisfy. You could also send them a 100 gold gift as a way of gaining another positive relationship modifier, but this could backfire if the modifier takes too long to kick in or they still see you as weak.

Another option is to not let them see your capital when you first meet. I've noticed it helps a bit in my last couple games, even against the Aztecs.

I believe that if you have a pretty strong military, that acts as a deterrence also.

this is pretty much the answer. even if you have positive diplomacy with them, they will still try to eat you if you look like weak food. you need units, walls when possible, and keep your city building to a defensive perimeter , preferably with choke points.

and, aside, if you're playing without mods, if you're not save-scumming, you're going to lose some deity games. it's just a lot of math to overcome.

Always start training troops first 3/4 warriors and 3 slingers should be enough. After that try to take one hero (Beowulf as the best choice), rush Holy Sites/Stonehenge and take defender of the faith beliefe. In the meantime unlock archery, upgrade the slingers and go take the weakest civ/towns close by if the Ai didn't attack already. Also try to position your army at several tiles around your town so you can prepare if the Ai start comming at you. If you see several levy units coming towards your town its game on. Btw, if the Ai comes first this is the better option cos after several waves it will stop training troops for enough time for you to take over its towns. After you get 3/4 free cities you can chill and concentrate developing infrastructure and chasing your desirable victory.

P.S. It wil be really hard to avoid early wars on deity so you gotta adapt and save-scumming wont help, btw, the window is just too small and the production/gold arent nearly enough to be flexible with different choices.

The Strategy i use is i play as Sythia rush horse archers and production buildings in my cities, i pump out as many horse archers as possible and declare war on everyone, for some reason it feels like when im at war with people their technology increases by a slower degree, so i pull them back and take as much from them as possible in endless war.

If you notice the AI moving troops closer to your cities and denouncing you, you can declare war against them before they do.
I believe that makes them act more defensive and not necessarily try to continue their offense, but to move their troops back to defend own territory.
At least some civs do that I have noticed.

I do this to the AI every time I play, but then again it is normal difficulty. Deity is just make a strong army and dont explore to far(have units far away from cities, looks weak)

But yeah if i meet another civ in the first 20 turns, we going to war.

Chop your way to victory! A fortified Scout on a wooded hill is a pretty tough opponent against an AI warrior. You don't have to sacrifice him, rather, run away (strategically withdraw) and hide/heal up. Once the scout gets promoted to +10 combat strength, keep it weaving in and out of the front line doing hit and run attacks. Remember, a fortified scout in a strong defensive position is just as good as (if not better than) a hard hitting offensive attack. And an army of scouts can devastate an attacking AI army, or swarm of barbarians if properly played.

Snarky answer: Don't play on Deity. XD Seriously, though, AI tends to be aggressive as F on deity.
ReoHays Apr 25, 2022 @ 5:59pm
Deity like all other levels, just whipe out the 1st wave and wait on the 2nd. Then you get some stragglers. Then they stop building, until they get to a new era. The AI is not very smart, the higher the difficulty, the more units the AI has to throw at you.
Kill any AI close to you, no matter who it is. If you are playing with Loyalty, destroy the city.
