Gathering Storm Niter Stockpile vanishes
Just on my first playthrough of GS and there are no Niter sources on my side of my continent (np) so I have invested a lot of envoys in ensuring I get a +2 Niter from a distant City State.I have managed to upgrade one swordman to a musketman using a goody hut reward but just as I am expecting to hit 20 Niter suddenly my stockpile is at zero!

Thinking this may have happened to me once before and assuming that that time I had accidentally traded the Niter away I reload the previous turn and replay it.

Then I press "Next Turn", as the other players take their turns I see the Niter goes from 18 to 20 immediately. I refuse all trade offers and then, the moment that control passes back to me the Niter stockpile drops to zero again!

There are no messages for anything like espionage, piracy or disaster.

So what has happened? A bug? Is the City that is providing me with Niter still able to access it for its own purposes?

I have seen this happen before in my game and it is annoying. Basically I had low Niter and not enough for another Musketman so I thought oh well, build a Swordsman and upgrade him later as I get more Niter. In fact I was doing this for a lot of units/low resources.

Anyway on to my point. So I wanted a Swordsman right? Wrong the game thinks otherwise! In the middle of the build, as soon as I have enough Niter (20) for the Musketman my city DECIDES I don't want a Swordsman, I in fact want a Musketman so it will build that for me instead!

It sucks, but that's what it is.

This has been reported before. No one has shown how to replicate, so I am assuming it is related to some preupdate mod files that have not uninstalled properly. Obviously, if you have never touched a mod, that is not the reason. But it can still be the reason if you have, even though you unsubscribed them.

I have never touched a mod. Pure vanilla installation from the initial release.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

That's a plausible explanation. Certainly worthy of Occhams razor.

Nailed it Paulytnz. I was building a Knight and it turned it into a Cuirassier (whatever that is).

Thanks!

Glad we know why this happens now, and the story had a happy ending! :-)

That is a nice find. Wish it was something that gave you a choice, but as Paulytnz said "it sucks, but that's what it is"

I think it would have been more obvious if I had seen a Musketman pop up in a build queue. Cuirassier is a new one for me as well.
