Resource and Yield icon scaling, and other graphics changes in GS.
>>>> From the patch notes <<<<
Scalable resource and yield icons with high-resolution textures available (can be modified via XML).
>>>><<<<

When I started playing a new Gathering Storm game, the graphics just felt wrong, so I went and looked at the patch notes and found this. It is certainly part of the cause, and the notes say it can be modifiied in XML, so I tried to find where it might be, but I'm not a modder, and none of the XLM files I looked at (resources and yields in the icon folder) made enough sense to me to tweak anything (I even looked at the same files on my non-updated laptop and they looked the same to me).

So does anyone know what files I should be working with, and what settings in those files I should change to either disable the scaling, or at least make the smaller icons larger?

Also...
It might be my immagination, or it might have to do with the color changes for civs, but unit icons look a bit blurry now (especially Norway and Barbarian units). Is this just my immagination, or does anyone else have this perception (and hopefully a fix)?

I have not noticed blurry unit icons.

As for the resource and yield icons, you might not want to mess around in the xml files unless you know what you are doing. I would suggest first looking on the workshop to see if someone has already made a mod that restores the icon to their previous size.

If you don't find a mod that does what you want then I would check the guides section of the forum and read up on modding until you feel comfortable making changes. Also make sure you back up any files you are going to modify before you modify them, so that you always have a way to restore the file to the way it was if something breaks.

Seconding OP. Unit icons, resource icons, "recommended city placement" icons, all blurry - except those added by mods. Those are crisp at any distance even with the new "further is smaller" camera effect. And some unit selection sound effects are muffled, especially the builder.
No settings changes sharpen them up.
I've thrown up a couple screenshots for comparison.

Blurry icons Exhibit A:
mod resource icons respectably crisp at any distance, base game icons blurry

Blurry icons Exhibit B:
mod icons smaller even nearer, but still crisp; base game icons blurry throughout

This is super annoying to me too. To the level I actually get annoyed during game as it just doesn't feel right and instead of chilling I'm frutratingly zooming in/out to find a sweetspot where icons are bearable (when zoomed too much in, which I don't like).

I've been trying to find out what is wrong with my settings and it turns out this is the feature that screws up everything. Where do I disable it? Telling "it can be modifiied in XML" doesn't tell us anything helpful.

Please someone help.

I think this is related to your graphics drivers or settings. I don't have this issue. Try updating to latest drivers and also try your screen scaling settings / high DPI settings in windows.

I have updated the graphic drivers (for GTX960), and all the other games are scaling just fine. It must be some sort of misconfiguration for certain systems.
