Recommissioning Nuclear Power Plants
Is there any indicator that tells you how far you are from a meltdown or when was the last time it was recommissioned?

I am trying to stay on the safe side but sometimes I forget when was the last time I did the city project so I'm constantly wasting 5 turns to make sure it does not meltdown.

Generally speaking how long does it take to get a meltdown?

Hover over the project or the building in the city panel. It shows you how many year it has been since last check-up. Wish there were better indicators for these things though.

Ive got some up to 20 without a meltdown but im so paranoid of them also so requeue it every 5-10years. I cant find the new expac files either to change its chance so that really sucks because it shouldnt be so short and id love to know the chance.

Thanks guys
I didn't know where to look for this information in my first game, and so forgot about recommissioning. When the meltdown happened, the reactor was 40-50 years old. The cleanup was a huge pain, so you do want to avoid the meltdown. 5-10 years is probably much too frequent for recommissioning; at that point it is unlikely that you are getting enough out of the power plant to offset the production you are spending maintaining it. I would try to time the recommissioning so it finishes when the plant would be 30ish years old.

Is there a way to get rid of the nuclear altogether in a city? Or we're stuck with it once built?

In city projects in the build menu, you can find convert to coal, and convety to oil. You can convert all three any way you want.

And if solar / hydro / wind is the new way to go, can I not use coal / oil / nuclear altogether and dismantle the plant?

If all needs are covered by better sources the power plant switches off and does not run. This is automatic. Check the power tab in the city report for details. Remember too that power sources try to cover all needs within range and not just the city they are built in.
