Civilization 1 & 2
Why are these not on Steam? With the current trend of releasing old games this needs to happen... I recently downloaded and played a game of Civ1 and it is still really nice.. I have the bigbox versions of the first two including the two Civ 1 expansion packs but would love to purchase them again on Steam!

might be a copyright issue. i think the original company that made those games probably doesn't exist any more. no idea who owns those old games now

I looked into this and Take Two has the current Civ rights (since 2004) and this includes all games. So it shouldn't be a legal issue.

Well, Civ2 won't run on 64-bit systems. Civ1 would require DOSBox packaging to work. Plus, rights to the names doesn't necessarily mean rights to the games.

Plenty of old games use dosbox to run , also I am pretty sure i can get Civ 2 to run on Win 10 64... if that is a challenge, then accepted :)

I think multiplayer gold edition might, others don't.

Because they are 16-bit binaries.

I don't feel I'd be allowed to link to it here, but on Google I found this site that lets you play Civilization 1 & 2 in your internet browser, it was very nostalgic!

Hello

I tested it and the Multiplayer Gold edition works flawless. I didn't even need Dosbox, it runs native on Win 10 64bit

What two "Civ 1 expansion packs?" I guess CivNet could count as an expansion pack (adding multiplayer), even if it was not really marketed as such. What's the other one?

Man, I can help with establishing multiplayer Sid Meier's `Civilization for Windows` 1.2 over Hamachi. I'm a big fan of this game since 1996.

I have fond memories from decades ago of using a spy/diplomat unit or whatever it was to buy the enemy units and turn back their army to attack themselves.

In Civilization you had diplomats. Two introduced an upgrade (IIRC) mid- to late- game: the spy.

I really wish they were added to steam as well. I most likely won't even play them but still bought 3, 4 and 5. Would be nice to be able to buy 1 and 2 as well and being able to complete the collection.

My error there. I meant Civ 2 expansion packs.
