Civ VI Lead Developer Left Firaxis - Final Nail In The Coffin?
"Today is my last day at Firaxis Games. It has been a thrilling 10 years, and I've had the privilege of working on one of my favorite games with some of my favorite people. Civ fans, you are the best fans in gaming!" @antonstrenger

This is confirmation of no more content for Civ VI IMO.

Beyond Earth 2? (Or SMAC 2?) :steamhappy:

Isn't it a strange time to leave your job? Usually people quit their jobs after x'mas, in the new year. After x'mas bonuses and office parties (which would be a nice place to say goodbye to a colleague). IDK

Nobody wants to be just made unemployed at Christmas IMO.

I don't think Anton was ever the Civ lead, he was the lead on one/some of the expansions. The lead dev was, and as far as I know is still Ed Beach. (I think he still introduced himself, or was introduced, that way at the CivGive charity stream a couple weeks ago...

Perhaps in preparation for Anton's departure Ed Beach has taken back the lead developer title, but I expect that is temporary.

In any profession you want to move on up. He's been Civ lead since Civ V's first expansion. Or earlier perhaps? Soon after Jon Shaffer left I imagine. Firaxis and Ed is surely looking to replace Anton. I hope one of those guys who did Beyond Earth will take over. David MacDonough(?) or Will Miller.

He wasn't. He was a junior designer during the development of Civilization V and its DLC and then a senior designer up until the release of Civilization VI. He only was the lead designer for Rise&Fall and the NFP.

That was my impression as well. He has never been the lead designer of the full game. I mean that is largely a ceremonial thing, being the lead of the projects he has been on IS a big deal. But I don't think he ever had the "Civ 6 Lead Designer" title.

By "he" I was referring to Ed Beach. Not Anton Strenger :steamfacepalm:

That goes double for Firaxis.

I think they are expanding their horizons beyond Civilization with Midnight Suns (in partnership with Marvel/Disney), which is great.

But thankfully studios like Amplitude and Mohawk are giving Firaxis some competition with HUMANKIND and Old World. I think it's healthy :steamhappy:

For sitting at a desk and twitching your index finger on a piece of plastic that's attached by a string to a computer box, that's great pay. It's not like he's treating COVID patients or anything important.

Many in the gaming industry like to say they "love their jobs" especially on YouTube or Twitch streams, but I expect it's more like any other job than you think.

They aren't getting paid to play games all day - that's what Twitch streamers do :steamhappy:
