Rise & Fall
I've grown tired of gathering storm there is minimal land that isn't subject to a possible natural disaster. The reason I bought GS was in the base game the AI was constantly putting cities right next to mine. How do people like Rise & Fall? $9 right now.

If you have Gathering Storm, you already have the Rise and Fall mechanics.

But can you disable the parts you don't like? (I don't know but I don't think so) I like R&F. I also have GS (bought it on sale) but haven't tried it yet because some aspects of it sound annoying, and I'm still learning RF.

The problem I have in GS is almost every tile has some sort of major natural disaster. Its hard to locate a place for a city by a river because 3/4 tiles flood, volcanos & rainforests all over the place, every non elevated sea tile floods on and on.. Energy is also very difficult. I understand the intent but its overdone from a game perspective.

Have you tried turning down the disaster intensity? At lower levels it's not so much of a bother I find.

Thanks. Yes I have it at zero. There are just too many situations where you are forced to put a city in a vulnerable position. Disasters dont change river flooding, volcanos and sea rising etc correct?

That is true, volcanoes still erupt and rivers still flood. There are fixes for river flooding, but I can't think of any for volcanoes other than distance.

I don't have a problem with some but its almost the entire map.

So back to my original questions does R&F have the same map terrain.

You can play with the Rise and Fall ruleset, but you lose access to everything introduced in Gathering Storm.

Been nearly wiped out at start because of tornadoes, volcanoes and floods. Fun times.

If you play with the Rise and Fall ruleset you'll still get loyalty, gold/dark ages, and governors, but without natural disasters, world congress, and some other features from Gathering Storm. So if natural disasters are your problem it maybe a good idea. You could also probably find a mod to disable natural disasters.

Yep placed on Zero its more likely to help than hurt especially early game.

Many Thanks. I bought R&F ($10) and prefer it mainly because the terrain is much easier to manage. I wouldn't mind an occasional natural disaster but just found finding a good location for a city with river& sea flooding, volcanos, deserts & rain forests annoying.

I'm also hoping the energy component is more realistic as the game progresses.

For what it's worth, all the disasters related to water have tech that can mitigate them, dams for flooding, flood barriers for global warming, etc.
