My other favorites are Nubia, Khmer, and Brazil.
However, they don't update the OST DLC after pre-purchase.
And they provide only *.ogg files which I believe are lossy. I hope to have the OST DLC containts all civs' OSTs, in lossless format.
That's actually my favorite theme thus far. I like the folk beginning eras and then the evolution into brass and big band themes. Australia's isn't bad either. I'm usually a sucker for piano & string quartet (violins, viola & cello) arrangements but the folky stuff is done really well from what I have found.
As with all of the themes (at least for the original civs, and I believe for expansion civs too), they start out simple and change with each era advancement. Initially, the Roosevelt theme sounds simple...but over the eras, it will eventually (by about Industrial age or maybe Modern) become the Title theme, then progress even beyond that in the Atomic era and beyond. That is how it works for me at least, and how it is intended to work in general.
Teddy's theme starts out with a slow banjo and fiddle playing in the ancient era. Medieval era the playing picks up pace and you can hear extra fiddles chiming in at parts. Industrial era changes the instrumentation incorporating in brass, woodwinds and a full orchestra. Atomic era is the full orchestra, brass and also has some synthesized drum beats hidden under the melody.
To my knowledge they all start off "quiet" in the ancient era and build up to the full sound. They all try to incorporate instruments native to the country they represent (didgeradoo for Australia, Sitar for India, Oud for Arabia, etc.) and try to focus on musical genres that were prolific in that civilizations history. Modern nations are fairly easy to create a soundtrack for them. Its the super ancient ones where I think they took some stylistic liberties with them and based them off of whatever modern nation inhabits that area today.
I am curious why Jazz wasn't included for America in the theme. I guess folk and brass are more "patriotic" but Jazz was probably the biggest genre of music that was born and raised in America. Rock & Roll, Pop and Country are bigger now, but don't come close to the longevity that Jazz has had.
Also, fun fact, Metal music is really popular in the Nordic region. The "Metal Capitol of the world" is a town in Finland called Lemi. If Finland were ever included in the game I feel like the Atomic theme should be done in e Metal music format. But I think Firaxis is done adding any new Civs so I can only imagine what it might have sounded like.
This is the title theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQYN2P3E06s
They are very different. Maybe the main menu music is glitched for you and plays America's industrial theme? That would be strange.
