Iron, one hex away!!!
anyone know how to get to a resource that is 4 hexes away?
In civ 5 you would eventually get there based on culture.
That does not seem to be the case in civ 6.
Even my capital city has not grown past three hexes in each direction.
Any Ideas Please?

Your city will grow past 4 hexes, it just takes awhile unless you are culture focused. You could build another city to get the hex, there are not really any penalties especially if you keep the city small

in this case another city is not an option... just no room next to mountain with another city on the other side. ...just need that one more hex. ;-p

I have had no problem growing city's past the 3 hex count.
But if it goes slow then maybe get some more culture in the specified city.

Or there is great person who gives you the tile on use

Cities go for resources within 2 tiles, then fill out everything within 2 tiles, then go for resources at 3 tiles, then fill in 3 tiles, and it repeats outward. It slows down a lot by 3 tiles, but a city with a lot of culture can go out at least 5 tiles eventually. I don't know what the max is, it says 4 tiles in the files for the value I expected the game to use, but I've see a city reach the 5th ring out myself so who knows.

Do you have any source to backup your statement?
As far as I know, you can only work resources max 3 tiles out from your city center.

Also never seen the borders expand beyong the 3 tiles.
Can you please provide screenshots of your claims?

My memory is not that great but I think i recall from Civ 3 or 4 you could have something called an outpost. I do remember I though it was a really cool idea.
anyway
How long do I need to wait to go past three hexes please? I think may game date is currently in the 1500's

i had 4 tiles but ur city can only work at 3 tiles

You can only work tiles up to Ring 3, but the borders will expand to Ring 5 and you don't need to work a strategic or luxury resource to get the strategic or amenity based benefits, just improve it with a builder

You can only ever work 3 tiles out yes, but you can continue to claim territory well beyond that, just like Civ4/5 and probably the earlier games but I just don't remember them.

And you have seen this with other civs than Russia?
I believe this mechanic stays the same with civ5. Only able to work within 3 tiles(or buy land within 3), but can, though it could took like eternity if culture is low, expand as far as 5
But in civ5 you can always use a Great General to claim the land, no such cheap option in civ6.

There is a great merchant that can annex up to 3 different hexes just outisde city limits to the nearest city.
