as long as its saved (either manually or autosave) wont matter much, just shut it down however

Sometimes (especially after loooooong play sessions) the game won't exit properly, it just hangs. Worse is, if in fullscreen it blocks anything else from showing up.

Have to close it via task manager on a second monitor. I suspect those with a single monitor will have to restart.

lmfao just press Alt-F4 if you have no second monitor folks

Exit game to main menu>Exit to desktop after usually helps me. Also, play this borderless windowed. Helps a ton right now.

Add the game folder to Windows Defender's whitelist

Doesn't work, that or using taskbar and x-ing civ6. Only way I can get it to close is via forced exit from task manager.

Yeh..

Argument is put forward that this is or was caused by Windows Defender. Or Nvidia Overlays.
You can disable overlays through your nvidia settings, update Windows Defender and that'll be fixed as well.

If you're still having the problem, either Ctl Alt Del, then tell pc to restart, should safely shutdown Civ and reboot. Don't use taskmaster to endtask as this can corrupt civ files. Causing you to reinstall. (Verify Integrity doesn't always work)
Also on Win10 can use Windows+Tab key to open new desktop, drag the game window into it, then close it.

Don't do this. Update Windows Defender Virus Definitions. And the problem will be fixed. Adding manual changes to Anti Virus protection is leaving the door open to hackers.

Task Manager --> Log Out closed the damned thing. Of course, if you have just the one account...

I'll second the exit to main menu, then quit to desktop from there.. solved the issue for me

Open task manager and click options then select always on top. Next time a game hangs on you the task manager wont be hidden behind a black screen and you can end the task.
