Naturalist can't do his job
So I got a naturalist to make national parks. Well when I sent him over a 4 province (marsh) t wonder I had but the button to make a nat. park was grayed and said requirements were not met. I also have a set of 5 mountain tiles and when I sent the naturalist next to that the results were the same as before. I owned all of the tiles as well. Anyone know why I can't make the park? Do I need a tech as well or something?

No you didnt meet the requirements. You can't just have 4 mountains. You need one tile to be something that the naturalist can actually walk on. When you select the naturalist, the map will highlight in bright glowing white where you can build a park.

You also have to make sure the 4 tiles are owned by the same city. Just because it is in your national borders doesnt mean it is owned by 1 city.

Also you must take down any improvements you may have built on those tiles to meet the requirements.

Maybe if we get Carthaginians with mountain walking again - one of the most fun V abilities, with roads over mountains and everything :D

It is a real pain of a feature, the national park, and the confusion around its really strict requirements. I think was it Eiffel Tower is a real boon for them - +2 attractiveness to all tiles.

So you need three tiles of natural wonders or whatever and another adjacent unimproved tile where the naturalist will do his business?
1. Four tiles in a diamond shape.
2. No improvements.
3. All tiles belong to one city.
4. All tiles must be mountain, natural wonder, or a tile with Appealing or better.

Also, the Tourism output of the park is equal to the total Appeal of the four tiles together. You also get some amenities from the park -- two for the owning city and one for each of your other four closest cities.

So if all 4 tiles are mountain where do I place the unit?

I think that even a road can prevent this from working. I have never gotten it to work.

Roads are ok, they don't prevent you from placing the national park:

The green line outlines the national park. IIRC at least 3 of those tiles had 'breathtaking' appeal due to the wonders nearby. But I had to remove a pasture I had over the sheep before it would allow it.

Just found out two more things about parks:

1) None of the 4 hexes can be directly adjacent to a city center.
2) You can plant second-growth woods to improve appeal (old growth is better though).

For it to be considered "owning" a tile are we meaning its currently able to work it with civilians?
because i had 3 unimproved tiles on edge of capital all nice and woody appeal 4+ ( thx eiffel tower) so i swaped the 4th wood tile back in the assign worker tab to the capital .. but still no joy.
no roads or improvements on any. since ghandhi just sent 5 apostles my way in one go i could of really done with that damn faith :Uranium:

3 mountain tiles and 1 hill in a diamond shape with a road through it works. Be sure all are owned by the same city.

1) Is wrong. I actually did this. I did a screenshot of it where you can clearly see that two of the tile are adjacent to the city center.

When 5 apostles turn up on my door I punch them in the face.

They also have to have a North South axis, if this goes at an angle to the NW or NE it will not work to build the National Park.
