It's an Atomic era unit compared to a Modern era unit. Simple as that.

as some one who knows the diffrece that annoys the hell out of me, i see why but still
If you think about it, battleships aren't really used much any more in modern warfare. They're an older ship design. Today we use destroyers and carriers more. This is simply reflected in the game. Also note that Battleships upgrade to Missile Ships (or whatever they're called). Again this reflects more modern warfare tactics where traditional Battleships are not at the forefront.

Destroyers in this game basically represent modern guided missile destroyers not WWII era destroyers. Now are you really suggesting that a modern guided cruise missile destroyer is cheaper to build than a battleship? If so, you may want to reevaluate the cost of the ammuntion (high tech missiles are not cheap; shells are), materials (a lot of modern destroyers incorporate stealth elements and/or modern lightweight composites which cost significantly more than steel), detection (fancy radar/sonar systems are expensive; a look-out less so) etc.

What kind of argument is that? It's a game, for heavens sake, stop arguing with a real life scenario.

But even if you have to... I guess there's a reason why destroyers are built today (if they are in fact) and why battleships are not used that much (taking your word for it), either they're cheaper, or they are more useful in some way. Which to my mind is both NOT reflected in the game.

Well, I'm in the U.S. Navy stationed in Naval Station Norfolk and we have a TON of guided missile destroyers at the pier about 500 yards from where I am right now. There's ONE battleship in the area and it's a freakin museum now. So, I guess it IS about historical accuracy :)

Battleship has Ranged Strength of 70 and Melee Strength of 60. Destroyer has Melee Strength of 80. It also has anti-aircraft and submarine detection abilities. It's a stronger (though slower) unit, so that is why it costs more.

Cruisers, subs, and carriers.

That's what it's about nowadays.

That would be enough to turn the North into a parking lot.

And maybe a touch of cyber to shut the power down.

Tomahawk chop.

it is a short ranged missile cruiser, more modern than an older style BB
Yes there may be destroyers back in 1890s around were pre-dreadnought Battleships were born, but here in the game the Battleships are a modern era unit but its not atomic for a good reason because the Battleships almost ceased to exist after the vietnam war, the oldest Battleships to be decommisioned are the Iowa Class Battleships with the last one being decommisioned in 1991. Destroyers despite being along with Pre-Dreadnought Battleships still are used today for a good reason and that's why its more expensive in this game to build because the Destroyers outlived the Battleships.

Battleships relied on their armored to take the hits and returned fire with their big guns, what killed the Battleships from being an atomic era unit in Civ 6 is that the Aircraft carriers are the main foe of the Battleships and as after both World wars show, Battleships in WW2 needed air escorts to keep themselves afloat. Just asked the Crew of the British Battleship prince of Wales what happened when you don't have airplanes covering you. Aircraft carriers dominated the Sea after most of the battleships were decommisioned.

True about the Prince of Wales, however, it was not designed with a lot of anti aircraft guns like BB s built later in WW II. Also 16" guns stopped being the long range ship killers with lots of aircraft around, and then later guided missiles became much longer ranged than the big guns
