Which DLC item adds Secret Societies and stuff?

I grabbed the Gathering Storm DLC because it was on sale, and was thinking of getting Rise and Fall as well until I saw the reviews for that (pointing out that basically everything in R&F was in GS, so kudos reviewers for saving my money there). I assumed the Secret Societies and Hero units that I've seen used in Youtube videos would be there as well, but haven't seen anything like that yet.

Are those something that actually still separate Rise and Fall from Gathering Storm, or are they from something else? Or am I just missing something and should already have an option for it?

In the description of Secret Societies it states "Requires the Civilization VI Expansion Bundle to play". Is this referring to the New Frontier Pass as a whole or do you only need to purchase Ethiopia itself to play this mode?

The ethiopia pack is what contains secret societies. You do not get ethiopia without secret societies and you do not get secret societies without ehtiopia. It doesnt matter if you buy the season pass or the individual pack.

Just don't buy one of the individual packs if you plan to get the whole pass later on, as you won't get a discount on the pass for parts you already own.

Also, while Gathering Storm does include the game mechanics from Rise and Fall, do keep in mind you won't have any of the civilizations that are part of the Rise and Fall expansion (Korea, Mongolia and so on). Depends on if you think you would enjoy any of those civilizations. Can always research online to see the civs and abilities, and probably even look at youtube for specific civ lets plays.

Likewise, the latest New Frontiers dlcs are required for those civs, so as suggested if you want to get them all, you are probably best served getting the full pass. You could pick up the individual packs over time as well. Just know that there are two alternate leaders (Teddy Roosevelt - America and Catherine de Medici - France) that offer a different leader ability (and graphic). These two can only be obtained if you buy the full pass.

Also also, if you are looking for Heroes (like Hercules and Sinbad), then you will need the Babylon pack. There are 6 individual packs that comprise the New Frontiers pass, each brings one or two civs/leaders and an optional game mode. Probably best to look up some info on the pass to see what comes with what to help decide what to get.
