Volcanic Soil
So if I understand correctly after a Volcano erupts the volcanic soil can only be farmed and mined? I have a mountain with two Stone bonus resources next to it. It was a perfect setup for an Industrial district (given their +1 for each adjacent quarry). Literally the turn before I was going to build the quarries the mountain suddenly becomes a volcano and now I can't build those quarries. Honestly, I've had so many annoying things happen from Volcanic Soil removing resources from games, I really wish that would be changed. It's one of the most frustrating mechanics in this game. If you can mine Volcanic Soil why wouldn't you be able to quarry it? Doesn't make any sense.

So I just loaded an autosave to the turn before the eruption and the eruption didn't happen this time (also I noticed that the mountain was labelled a volcano I just didn't see that) so the quarries got built, but I suppose they're still going to get destroyed when the volcano erupts aren't they?

I stopped making improvements directly in vulcanic soils. It's almost certainly not worth wasting the builders charge.
I find them to be a great place to build National Parks, thou.
Also, in a plot adjacent to them, placing a preserve becomes handy, for increasing even further their yields.
It's very rare for me to build districts, also. But if I'm playing Ethiopia, it's a place to build as many Rock-Hewn Church (Holy Site) as I can.

There's a chance they only get damaged. But also the chance they wil evaporate.

Volcanic eruptions have a chance at deleting features and resources, but it is rolled separately from the chance at pillaging/deleting improvements. Thus, it is possible to have a lumber mill/pasture/quarry on volcanic soil, but they usually don't survive a second eruption.

My advice: if you see a bonus resource adjacent to a volcano or a feature such as marsh/rainforest/forest next to one, it's best to harvest it sooner rather than later as long as you can spare the gold to buy the tile(s) and the builder charge(s) to clear them.

I think if you have Liang in the city (with reinforced materials) you would be good to go.

I like to build wonders on volcanic soil and next to same as they seem to be unaffected by eruptions. Kinda funny as I am sure a volcanic eruption would damage/destroy say the Taj Mahal if it was in the vicinity of the volcano.

Appoint Liang as governor and promote her with "Reinforced materials" on her promotion tree, then whenever that volcano erupts on your quarries you can flip both middle fingers at the screen and laugh.

Yeah, unfortunately it was too early in the game and pretty much five turns later the Volcano erupted and no matter how many times I loaded it erupted anyways so I eventually just accepted that spot was not going to be my Industrial Zone. Turned out that wasn't an Industry Run anyways, as I put a Culture Zone there and used the Volcanic zone for Wonders since Wonders are immune to eruptions (and boy does that volcano love erupting).

For the sake of clarity, the only resources that get destroyed are Bonus Resources. Luxury and Strategic are fine. The tile will get pillaged but the resource will remain.

if you can surround a volcano area and not place a city for a very long time you can get some amazing tile yields. or the darn thing never erupts. same with floodplains. i usually avoid floodplains and volcanos as first city.

One problem is the AI is famous for settling their cities (AI civs and city-states) right next to volcanoes. If you go to war or even take a city by Culture you might get stuck with dealing with these volcanoes. Sometimes I am amazed as I use setting 1 for natural disasters and I can get a volcano eruption, twister and flood all in the space of a few turns in my small territory.
